The Catapult Trireme is not an upgrade of the Trireme. It is a separate vessel with less hit points and a slower fire rate than a Trireme but it has much more attack strength, and range and is armed with a Catapult, which can fire at a location instead of at a particular unit. The Catapult Trireme can be upgraded to the Juggernaught. War vessels fire at enemy villagers, military units, and boats within range. Researching Alchemy increases attack strength. Ballistics increases accuracy. Engineering increases range.

The ultimate warships of antiquity were advances on the trireme that occurred after the death of Alexander. These ships were first broadened so that multiple rowers could apply power to each oar. Based on limited descriptions and detailed figures for crew and rowers, it is believed that the largest ships of this period may have had catamaran hulls. The broadening of ships and decks added weight and further reduced speed and maneuverability, but increased stability. Decks supported catapult artillery and large marine contingents. Ships engaged each other primarily with missile fire and boarding, and less with ramming.
