6:30PM EST – Patch Fever at about 41% Celsius
Millions have downloaded the patch from the site already…well, ok, thousands. :-)) We hope you are all happy with what the patch brings and once again we thank Ensemble Studios and Microsoft for allowing us this world-wide exclusive release of the patch from our site.

Some of you got a little hot under the collar about one of the changes but please try to remember that once something has been changed for the good of a game it may mean that those players accustomed to the old situation might be unbalanced. I hope that those of you who feel affected in this way can appreciate that it’s just the way things sometimes go when change for the good occurs.

Now meet somebody who is completely happy about how Age/ROR can actually help you to not only meet people in the flesh but to maintain contact with them while enjoying the games!

    12:30PM EST – Patch Released!!!
Here it is fellow agers, the long awaited patch for both Age of Empires and the Rise of Rome Expansion Pack! Are you wondering what the changes are?  Shang villagers costs have been reduced, as well as their starting food, Phoenician wood chopping rates have been reduced, the idle villagers key (.) from Age of Kings was put in, and a host of bug fixes prevent trainers and cheats from being used.  Head right here to download it, or read on for the official list of changes:

Microsoftâ Age of EmpiresÔ 1.0c and Age of Empires: Rise of Rome 1.0a Readme File

    December 1999
    ÓMicrosoft Corporation, 1999

Microsoft Age of Empires 1.0c and Rise of Rome 1.0a are upgrades of Age of Empires 1.0 and Rise of Rome 1.0 that include several enhancements and bug fixes.

    A. Version Compatibility

If you are playing a multiplayer game, all players must be using the same version of Age of Empires and Rise of Rome.

    B. Enhancements

    • ·   Idle Villager Key – Pressing the period ( . ) key selects and centers the view on a villager or fishing boat that is not assigned a task. Pressing ( . ) cycles though all idle villagers and boats in the game. This is a keyboard-only command; there is no on-screen control for it.
    • ·   Shang Food Cost – The cost of a Shang villager was reduced to 40 food. The amount of food the Shang player starts with was reduced by 40.
    • ·   Phoenician Woodcutting Bonus – Phoenician villagers now work 15% faster. In previous versions of Age of Empires, they worked 54% percent faster.
    • ·   Market Tribute Bug – If you have an incompletely built market, you can no longer send a tribute until it is completed.
    • ·   Wall Overrun Bug – If you build a wall from the inside of the map to the edge, it will no longer build wall foundations all the way across the map.
    • ·   Deleted Shallows Object Bug – If you delete shallows in the map editor, units can no longer walk over the old shallows area.
    • ·   Building Through Diagonal Walls Bug – A villager can no longer build a building on the opposite side of a diagonal enemy wall.
    • ·   Converted Dock Bug – You can no longer continue to trade at your dock after it has been converted.
    • ·   Farm Bug – When both a farmer and Farm are selected at the same time, pressing “S” no longer causes the farm to replenish the amount of food available.
    • ·   Building and Training at Incorrect Building Bug – You can no longer train units at a building not intended for that purpose.
    • ·   Cheats Removed from Multiplayer – The GAIA, Reveal Map, and No Fog cheats have been removed from multiplayer.
    • ·   Steroids Bug – Cheating in multiplayer games by using the Steroids cheat has been prevented.
    • ·   Anti-Trainer Technology – Technology has been added to Age of Empires to cause multiplayer games to go out of sync if any of a variety of hacks are attempted.
    • ·   Multiplayer Game Launching – Multiplayer games with larger numbers of players (6 or more) or with bad modem connections are much more likely to succeed on launching.
    • ·   Palmyran Free Tribute on Full Tech Tree Bug – When the Full Tech Tree option is selected, the Palmyran civilization players no longer receive the free tribute bonus.

2:50AM EST – Patch Coming Later Today!
Barring any major catastrophies, the AOE/ROR patch will soon be released here at AOE Heaven!   It upgrades Age of Empires to version 1.0c and The Rise of Rome Expansion Pack to 1.0a.  Please note that as of noon today PST, the Microsoft Gaming Zone will require that you have this patch installed in order to use their service.

9:00AM EST – No patch news yet.
Well, it’s still very early and for many people in the Western Hemisphere today is the first real day of work after the excesses of the Christmas season and the wild exuberance of a millenium celebration. Of course for me I’m in a country that has 18 public holidays and today is one of them! Also, a law passed a while ago means that all holidays occurring on a weekend day, except December 25th and January 1st, are automatically moved to the very next Monday! :-)) So, what am I saying (besides that I am one lucky dude with a lot of long weekends)? Just that IF (yep, that is a big IF) today would be the day of the patch I would look for it at the end of the day.

Now don’t go all fuzzy-wuzzy on me and please note that that last statement constitutes my opinion and in no way gives even a wisp of a guarantee that the patch will be out today. It could just as easily come out tomorrow or even later. The only guarantee I can give you is that this will be one of the first places you will hear about it!

11:00AM EST – Patch SHOULD be out in one or two days.
Judging from Archi’s very own words the wait for the patch should not be too long. Meanwhile, Angel Zen-zapper has this message for you in case you encounter any problems in the fori: “If you are getting “Error 500: Internal Server Error” messages while accessing any part of the forums, please refresh the page a minute or two later.  Please note that if you were posting/replying you might get a message about “duplicate messages being detected”.  That’s normal – your post made it.  If it still gives you the same message, please write an email to Angel Zen (zen@heavengames.com), and include in the email which forum you were using, and what you were doing at the time of the error.  We apologize for the inconvenience.”

6:00PM EST – Patch will be out in a few days.
This time I have Archangel’s own words to back me up. Here’s what he has to tell us about the progress: “The patch is almost out the door! The time is almost here! We can except [sic] the patch to show up in the next few days. Right now I can’t go into details on what the patch fixes in both AOE and ROR but we feel it has addressed many of the problems that have been bought to our attention.”

10:00PM EST – Patch will be out later than anticipated.
So, the indications are not correct. I apologize for getting your hopes up early. That’s what happens when you try to process one month of down time and 200 e-mails in one day. The patch, for Age of Empires and Rise of Rome only by the way, will need more time (remember, the longer it takes, the better it is). More info will be posted right here when available and, of course, when confirmed.

00:00AM EST – Patch will be out later today!
So, if the indications are correct, we will have a patch out soon today! I will post more info when available and, of course, the link will be posted.

11:40PM EST – Forums are getting back into shape.
Parts of the forums seem to have been thrown back a thousand years or so. This now seems to be under control (mega-tech dudes did some major hacking to make is so). What also seems to be under control is the rather vacant blather that some visitors graffiti-spray there (I mention no names) :-). Thanks guys/gals (you all know who you are) for adding that serious, non-nihilistic tone to the forums again. Makes me go all soft inside it does.

11:40PM EST – HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Wow, doesn’t that date look futuristic? I do believe the future is here now. 🙂 I hope you all had a ‘different’ celebration of the new year, decade, century and millenium. I was in bed the whole time…sure glad I had the television to watch that night.

Now mulan98 has a strange wish over in the forums. Well, I hope one part of that wish comes true. In any case, the team all hope you will continue to visit in countless hordes and enjoy yourselves here even more than you have in the past two years!
