This is the second in a series of scenarios based around Caesar and the wars he fights to retain his Empire. This is ( in my opinion and others ) a great selection of scenarios which are exciteing and fun to play. This selection took hours of editing and re-editing to get right. My good friend Tom Green helped me with important aspects of the scenarios like gameplay and difficulty. I have made instruction maps which are geographicly correct for this selection of scenarios. As I do not belive in stockpileing or time consuming gameplay the scenarios consist of mass butchery and battle strategy. If you did download the first I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy! Multiplayer also : ; ; ; No
Playability: 2
The second installment of the Caesar's empire series puts you in Rome, defending yourself against invading barbarians. You play on a small portion of a quite blank but nicely done map of Europe, with Caesar's forces in Carthage and Antony's in Rome. You're told to unite them, repeal any invasion, and destroy the enemy leaders and town centers. Doing so is quite easy; your little post-iron group of elite troops can stand up easily to the tool age barbarians, and it doesn't help that your enemies aren't allied---they spend most of their forces attacking each other. It's all too easy to march in and plough everything over from the word go. While the objectives work nicely and it's fun to tear apart cities, there just isn't enough substance here.
Balance: 1.5
Frankly you can't lose this one unless you send Caesar and Antony into the enemy territory by themselves. Your adversaries can't stick up for themselves becasue 1) they're in the tool age and 2) they aren't allied. Mos of their troopers are spent on fighting one another, leaving you to sneak right in for the win.
Creativity: 3
A very nice intro map, along with an accurate map of Europe and solidly written storyline make this an average standout. The gameplay may not work, but it's good to see this sort of effort put in for such an old scenario.
Map Design: 3
The map itself is pretty blank, but is in fact a very accurate map of Europe, which lets it earn it's points here. Some work is put in at several parts.
Story/Instructions: 3.2
Storyline and instructions are written solidly, but the excellent bitmap puts this one over the edge. Nice to see that sort of effort.
Additional Comments: Not really worth the download, unless you want the Europe map or the excellent bitmap to play around with.
