ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US
Ever since the first days of the internet there existed a being called a ‘newb’. Over the years they developed as a group, expanding both in number and variety. Scientists have now identified over 500 species of newb, from the innocent and cheerful ‘Noubis Leporidae’ to the parasitic and evil ‘Treponooba Pallidum’. This large group of froobs, choobs and twoobs now make up over 90% of the internet, and their numbers are to this day growing at an exponential rate. But try searching the granary for the word ‘newb’ – nothing. Repeat with ‘noob’ or the 133tish ‘n00b’, and again, not a single hit.
Now there is a campaign that deals with these obtrusive and unancient little folk, the submitters of unzipped campaigns and speakers of incomprehensible leet. In FALL OF THE NEWBS you will discover the Newb. You will learn a lot of their character and a little of their custom. Should you make it to the end of this tale you will know much about newbies, and perhaps you will even come to like them. But that day is still far off, for this is only a teaser…
THE STORY
Somewhere out there, on a day not unlike this one, there waited a pair of newbs in a dark and desolate little spot of cyberspace known as ‘MSN Gaming Zone’. One of them was an evil troll using the alias ‘hax0r’, while the other was a bright little lad who really had no place in all this, but just happened to be there on the day. His name is Cheché, and this is his story.
For aeons there are many questions that have remained unanswered.
Questions like:
-Can n00bs ever spell the word ‘campaign’ correctly?
-Are all newbs one and the same?
-What does Bismarck want more than anything else in the world?
-Can the power of love ever defeat the might of greed?
-How many grass patches can you cram onto a gigantic map?
-Can AoEH defeat the n00bs, or will it fall into everlasting oblivion?
Fall of the Newbs aims to answer all of these questions, and many more. But first, let’s install the teaser, shall we?
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Unzip this file to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires\scenario
The scenario file is the only thing in the zip file, there is no language.dll (though there will be in the full version, including some new taunts for this level) nor any other files (not even a readme). You can look in the scenario editor (once you have beaten it) if you are interested in how the scenario works.
SCENARIO OVERVIEW
*Carefully read the instructions and hints (if you need to). The hints provide a few tips that may help overcome this slightly confusing scenario. The bitmap can be useful too (if you can see past the over-the-top references to almost everything).
* This campaign was designed to be played with the Rise of Rome expansion. Playing it with AoE is not advised, since it might result in unpredictable behavior, such as the game not being able to play the scenario, or the scenario being unplayable.
*Like the campaign, this scenario will support all difficulty levels (our gift to all the newbs out there :-)
* This scenario was made by me (Richard), but is the first of two scenarios in the massive AoEH community project ‘Fall of the Newbs’. Look out for FoN later this year, and check the ‘Fall of the Newbs’ thread for updates.

The file title let me think of a movie that I found some years ago on the internet. |

Yes, it was an internet phenomenon at one time. That is what the level is named after. It is also a cheat in Empire Earth, which gives you 100,000 of all resources I believe. I first saw it on DiGiT's site (the guy who made AoKTS and has recently started GenieWiki for AoE, AoK and Star Wars Galactic Battles.
Somebody set us up the bomb!

There will be a link to the movie in the final story on the forums too.[Edited on 03/28/06 @ 12:55 AM]

Is it really possible to win without a dock? |

Yes, though it's extremely difficult. If you can find the path that Cheche's scout must have come by, you need only a lot of luck and very good execution. |
