It was pretty widespread

Thanks for the input knightse72 but the images you posted aren't very useful at this point. We are no longer on this project and the images aren't specific enough to model anything with.

If you have more concrete suggestions feel free to share though.

Sad to see this project die

I see some mentions of Solomon's temple.
I suppose I can add some input.

There were actual evidences of letters sent to the Phoenician King requesting for Tyrian/Phoenician wood (cedrus libani, or as the Assyrians called it, "erenu") to be shipped for the building of the temple... and Hiram aided this by giving 30,000 (iirc) timbers of cedar and fir, in exchange for 20,000 units of wheat and oil. Phoenician artisans also aided in the building of Solomon's Temple, and similarly, Phoenician artisans also constructed a grand temple to a goddess in 1200 BC in a similar fashion to how the temple of solomon was constructed.

The reason Phoenician wood was prized was because of their sturdy quality, its resistance to rot and insects, as well as their pleasant scent; they were essential for woodworking, and building of palaces, temples and large ships. Egyptian wood for instance (e.g. the Ficus Sycomorus), had spongy texture and so cannot be used for straight planks or beams, and the same goes for their palm trees which had soft interiors which were no use for ship construction or even buildings - a soft, spongy wood like that would've collapsed ships and buildings if they were used; the best they could do was use Acacia trees, which could only produce boards upto three feet in length.

It's pretty much the same for Mesopotamia, which didn't have much suitable wood for construction. And so Phoenician cedar - in particular - was prized a lot, compared to other types of wood, from which buildings like the temple of solomon were heavily dependent on.

Hey everyone,

I know it has been a while but just wanted to let you know I've been playing around some more with aoe style buildings with varying success.

I don't plan to do anything with these as I just made them for fun but I wanted to share it anyway.

You never cease to impress us Jan. They look stunning!

Lost Empires Mod
Maybe it's only a fool who'll perilously journey out to what might not be there. But if you want to solve problems, you don't just solve the ones that are there, you find more and make more and go after the impossible ones.
The neanderthals never ventured into the unknown and they went extinct, so who are the fools?

Jan,
Your Solomon's Temple is cool, but I would use it for the Israelites rather than for the Phoenicians, because they were distinctly different civilizations.

Thank you Epid!

I'm no longer working on these wonders. But to respond to your request, there is no Israelite civ in-game and there is strong evidence that Solomon's temple was based on Phoenician architecture so because of the lack of other sources I think it's fine to use the design for the Phoenicians.

Also, 1 Kings 7 says that Solomon recruited a Phoenician craftsman named Hiram to build the temple -- not to be confused with the Phoenician king of the same name who was also Solomon's ally and provided materials for the Temple. Pretty reasonable choice by Jan dc, I think, to reference that connection.

Thank you Shotoku_Taishi!
Sadly I'm not planning any real projects but if there are people who want to use these graphics in their mods you can always contact me.

I found a way to make textures more pixelated so I'll probably update these models so they look more like the original Aoe graphics.

I tried converting that picture into 256 color bitmap, still looks great. With this picture the power of paint and some utility tools should be enough to be added to game.

Anyways, Happy New Year Everyone!

I wish that the AOE: DE Edition gave each civilization individual wonders like this Mod for AOE:ROR (1.1 Upatch version) does.

Hey Jan Dc, could you upload slp file instead of image.
All Cartha, Celt, Gallic, and Normandic sets
I tried to mod building in 5th Legacy Mod with SLP Editor but it didn't work at all.
