First things first, you should probably know that there's a new feature on the site. If you look in the left menu bar the Granary has a link called "New Activity" which will take you to a listing of New Comments and Reviews for all categories in the download system. Hopefully this will be of some use for those of you who comment a lot in the Granary. I have also uploaded a few new screenshots, mostly to the 2012 Pretty Town Contest Album. I always felt weird about how that Album only had 3 screenshots and 2 of those were just my unrelated project screenshots.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to shamelessly self-promote for a minute and announce that I have at long last released that campaign I began work on in 2011. The title landed on "Nubia - In the Shadow of the Nile". I like to think it's a pretty challenging experience but I hope some of you out there will enjoy it.

This screenshot is a lie because I actually disabled Siege in this scenario.

Congratulations on finally releasing it! That came out of nowhere lol. Must feel like a burden has been cast off your shoulders? My deepest respect for continuing and properly finishing your campaign. I'm going to have a go at this.

Came out of nowhere? I said you should be expecting the thing around Easter, have I ever backed down on my word?

I guess it feels good to finally be done with the thing, but it's also a bit sad knowing it's in all likelihood my final campaign submission. I mean, I had a pretty fun time actually finishing this thing up after all these years, but given the time it took me even having the ground work done, I doubt I'd have the energy to go another round.

I've played through it a bit it has some serious flaws which I'll get to in a moment but first I would like to give you credit for the main story and history, nicely researched and written, Suppy would love this. It is engaging and as far as accuracy can go in AoE (scn map layout) it is very well done, kudos. It never drags and is very in-depth when it comes to history, which I greatly appreciate since it actually teaches you a thing or two about the ancient past. The bitmaps are nice too, old ES quality standard.

I've played through the first scenario in it's entirety, and skimmed over the last two briefly, as my time allows. I'll go over them one by one.

1st: Like diving into the deep without having learned to swim. Woah this one is a tough bird! I gave it many tries before reading the walkthrough at the hints section, which is an absolute necessity in this scenario. If it wasn't there I seriously would not have known how to beat it - especially when it comes to the artifact part. Finishing it is impossible if you go by the standard objective route (which is very challenging by the way, with very little margin for error, but doable), which I did since I found it more interesting than getting the high score in relation to the countdown.

I finished all the objectives yet I did not get the You Are Victorious! message - the problem here is the countdown timer of 5000 years. This is a global victory meaning it applies to everyone, so regardless of the individual victories set, you need to achieve the highest score to finish the scenario, nullifying ALL the indivual victory settings required. You should remove this counter unless you want this scenario only beatable by high score (which is not so interesting to me at least), change it to standard or conquest. It's either this or the individual victories are not set correctly. I do like the counter idea a lot though, it really gives you no time to think (which is what makes this scn very hard and challenging). The brown neutral AI gave me no problems at all btw.

2nd: I briefly played this one, I think it's doable with the Compy's and walling, just sniping everyone, with some good microing and patience. Did not finish it.

3rd: Crashes to desktop for me every time at around the 15 second mark. No idea why? I did not even touch any villies, didn't even scroll across the map, I get a crash. Very weird. It looks interesting though from the small parts of the map I did see!

I liked the scn design too, nicely done, though I found the first scenario a bit too crowded with trees. The sneaky lions are excellently placed and really ramps up the difficulty.

Overal great job, if you can fix the flaws it has that would be nice!

Edit: I thought of a brilliant and simple idea for you to include a countdown in your first scenario (sans timer on screen though): Simply make use of a so called "Trigger", using three tiles: First in the corner a BLP, second tile next to it put a huge amount of more overlapping BLP's (amount counting for the actual time, this would require some testing), then an alligator on tile three. Once the gator finally gets to the BLP on tile one and eats him you lose. Make sure the Alligator is locked in on all other sides. I'm sure you get what I mean

It says OR Phatfish. It means the player is supposed to figure out which of the options works.

No but in all seriousness, I'll definitely do an edit of that first one. Okay I just did, it changes some things but I'm pretty satisfied with how the triggering went down. The map actually used to have a timing trigger before I did this thing and never tested it, which was a bowman having to kill 23 HCavs and a Chariot (weirdly specific). I think the new thing is superior however as it gives a clearer visual reference.

The third scenario crashing is a different beast however, and I can't tell how to deal with that. I know this is a map which suffers from stability issues, but apart from loading saved games I haven't encountered any problems, and I've run this on two different machines using RoR 1.0a on Win7 and 10 respectively. I've included the .scx file in the current update, you can see if that runs for you but otherwise I don't really have a clue.

Okay I figured out the problem using campaign manager to look at the first scn.

You forgot to include in the instructions that advancing to the Tool age is a requirement. But since there is no room for more text, you have to do a compromise here... You could try if the global victory setting with timer year countdown works now, or keep the very innovative new way.

Also looked at the 3rd scenario and I can't seem to figure out why it crashes (also when playtesting via the editor, same 15 sec crash). I first thought you used a 255x255 map which is unstable by nature, but thats not the case. 250x250 should be stable. I don't see missiles either, but they never caused issues for me besides the save bug. I love the delta, this is some serious eye-candy goodness. If anyone else could test this 3rd scenario and see if it crashes for you that would be helpful.

Okay I put the score thingy back but also made the whole ruins thing more of a mess to deal with (if brown never fights you it gets kind of lame if you can just camp the ruins). Either way I think having the timer there from the start really gives a good vibe to the map. Dumb how you miss those things. Used to be the player had to research domestication, so getting to Tool was a requirement anyway, then I simplified the VC:s and never thought you wouldn't tool because why wouldn't you? It's one of those things you're easily blinded to when you made the thing yourself. It wasn't until the last moment that I figured the second scenario should probably mention what causes you to lose the map.

Is the map Gigantic? I don't even remember, thought I downsized to Huge after running into trouble the first time. Maybe it's a matter of the designer placing too much crap on it.
