Exactly 18 months after its original release, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is now available on Steam. When we asked our visitors back then, one third responded that they would refuse to buy the game unless it was released on Steam, but did they hold out all this time? If you gave in, there's no need to sweat, cross-network play will of course be enabled between people who purchased the game on Steam and those who did so via Windows Store.

Thanks to forum member Anterior2 for bringing this to our attention.

I am enjoying the game. The patches have improved it, including the AI, and the graphics are great.

MP/SP is alright now. Still seeing many units getting stuck though. The title on the main menu is still not centered, the editor still has many bugs, no love given to it. And still no real modding support which is what keeps Age alive. No editing of actual data files, and from what I've heard AoKDE won't have it either because of poor descisions/bad system design. Yes they will have some kind of mod support from the official ageofempires.com, but the login system of that site sucks so much - I cannot not for the life of me log in any more, whatever I try. Have fun trying to submit your works or posting a reply on their forums.

Really? Because I've heard they've even left empty civ-spots for modders to add completely new civs for aoe2de as the ones added with DE will be the last official ones.

For me too little too late. I have more games gathering dust in my steam/gog libraries than I have time to play. I've also mostly moved away from rts aside from some total war and rise of nations every now and then. That said, I do applaud that they bring it to steam (maybe gog too?), but it's way too late.

Like any good Age of Empire ... There is depth, a part of history and everything else ... Graphically a nice improvement of the original game but that's all.
