You can buy it now/pre-order in the Windows Store!

Well for a second I thought I was somehow able to play the beta again, but it turns out AoE DE has already launched based on your local time! And lucky me, I can play it already If you aren't able to play yet, hold out for a few more hours, and you should be able to launch and Wololo to your hearts content. You can already download the game in any case if you pre-ordered or bought the game, and with a whopping 17gb, it's better to start installing it already!

As I can now talk about progress from the actual beta up to the release build (which is 4994) I will share my personal experience as a long time Ager with you.

It still feels very much like a beta, as some parts are not fully finished yet which includes some missing features like Classic mode for every game mode, missing icon graphics in the Editor and occasional crashes. There is still some lag, and pathfinding has not really been improved. The game sometimes feels sluggish. Not in a definitive state yet!

It is, however, very playable, and it's mostly the Multiplayer part which has improved quite a bit over the last builds (something which I was very sceptical about!). It's far from perfect by any means, but you should be able to get a game going for sure!

Single player has also been updated, with new scenario's for the main campaigns, as well as voice-overs for the instructions. You can play an RM or DM match in Classic mode (the original game), which has the original soundtrack (yay!), but misses the old interface and uses DE's.

The Scenario Editor features a new "re-generate eye-candy" option, as well as new terrains (no snow, unfortunately), and new objects like grass bushes to play with.

One of the developers also mentioned to me that a new patch with more improvements is coming soon, so unfinished parts will *likely* be updated and improved upon over time.

If you can live with the flaws, it's a fun game for sure, so I hope to see you in a MP match soon

Have fun playing Age of Empires: Definitive Edition!

That information is in need for me aswell, since I began to make DE campaign myself.

The instruction bitmap is not included in DE (or restricted because of the locked data), so you can't fiddle around with that (yet). Sucks I know.

I haven't tried to add voice overs yet and again I am not sure if it's possible at this moment (did any of you try this?). You could add music to your voice over file for the instruction screen all the same though, it doesn't have to be your only your voice (or a combination, even better!). Audacity is free music editor which would work very well for this purpose. It's pretty easy to use. Of course you need some kind of mic to record anything in the first place obviously.

Shame about the scenario instruction map..
Hope the devs expand the editor soon enough.

It does indeed sound interesting to be able to add voiceover or music to your scenarios. You reckon there is a specific location files need to be saved to in order to show up in the editor?
Ive had no luck so far.

I have to say.. it's a real shame the editor doesn't have triggers or anything like that. Real shame.
And seeing the issues it has presently, I guess it'd be best if I wait a few years or so, to re-consider getting DE.

Well, at least we know some fo the FE staff are keeping an eye in our opinions and feedback. Would all be implemented? no clue. The game engine had its limitations but is good to know they really care about trying to make the fans happy :P

Cacti with a collision box? That makes pretty much any pro designers work unplayable!
Even though I haven't bought the definitive edition yet, I'm still kind of.. following its development and patches and stuff. I'm glad to say that the recent patch for DE might've fixed the cacti problem (according to a source in reddit).

So I guess that's one problem out of the way.
