Welcome to the AoEH Designers' Board, a thread aimed to gather the last active designers and keep them in contact. The Board shows in alphabetical order people who are currently working on AoE/RoR scenarios and campaigns. To join the Board simply post here and give some little details about your work, such as the game (AoE or RoR), the setting (Historical, Fiction or Fantasy) and the subject (what is your campaign about?). This is also a good place to ask help to other designers, seek for playtesters, post your screenshots, and unleash your design frustrations.

Updates on your progresses are optional, but highly welcome, so if you are working on a multi-level campaign you may post here as you finish a particular scenario, and your status will be updated. Once your game is published, it will be listed among the 'Released Projects'.

Both are good (and they don't start with "Rise of.." :P ), but I'd prefer the second one.

I'd like to see the finished version.

Quoted from GaiusCaesar:

I know it's a bit early thinking of Cpn names 'cos I haven't even finished the first scenario but it'd help me to get it out of the way.

I believe that it is never to early to start thinking of campaign names. I mean my campaign name is "The Journey of the Dragon Sword".

I'm a bit disappointed to hear about Borruma, I really thought it would be him or his team that would win. I hope he continues with his other campaign, that one is great. Now it's anyone's guess as to who wins. It's good to see you're continuing with the campaign LF, if I run out of time I'll do the same.

As for my question before, the link provided helped, but I still have difficulty doing it. I take Andrea's template, which works for AoE, open it in ROR, then save as SCX, and I can't change it back. It just says [Name.SCN]- SCX file

Perhaps I should try with some grass maps or something. Did you discover the rocks by looking at DRS files, Andrea? There are several "beta rocks", almost as many as there are in the game. It's possible a similar thing could happen with other units.

One thing I forgot to tell you, could you make the enemy passive aggressive too? Don't bother if you already begun with another file, then it's probably just my fault. ;D

But thanks for your help, I really appreciate that.

For the link, I already got that utility, but it's damn hard to use. If I have some free time I might try it again.

I guess Bis and Balazs will win, but I have no doubt all of the campaigns will be great. It will be pretty close I guess.

Bloody school... I have only had time to add a stinkin path to my scenario in the last 3 days. Lol. So, the Chronicles of Jason Varro it is then. Damn now I need a subtitle. Which archer unit would be better for the archer clan that ambushes the hero in my scenario? Bowmen are not as dangerous as Improved (who rip through my Broadies) but the latter look more the part.

In my opinion, the more challenging the better. But don't make it impossible. Getting a good balance done is hard. I vote for Improved Bowmen, but of course, you can also do the trick with simple bowmen.

My first answer was a bit fast, but I thought about it a bit more. Best is you first put impies and test. If it's too hard, make less impies, if it's still too hard go for bowmen.

When I make campaigns I usually try to make it not too easy, but not too hard either.

You can use Hittite bowmen to do +33% damage too. Hittite bowmen are used in my first contest scenario, they have an edge against the CPU which means you have to support them a lot. Use civ bonuses in your scenarios as much as possible.

In mine there are hittite bowmen too.

I find civ bonuses very important, for example, the enemy navy is Phoenician (cat triremes), while the bandits are Hittites (good bowmen).

I'll probably even post some screenshots later.

Heh, you really think it's good? Cool. I like the Desert Town btw LittleFreak.

I have just thought up a good idea for a scenario while watching The Return of the King. A mission where you start at one side of the map setting houses (they are supposed to be beacons and the stone age houses are wooden piles so Im using them)up in flames while killing any enemy trying to stop you (A bit like when the beacons are lit in the LOTR). Then the player has got to battle his way through a city before using an allied priest (Andrea Rosa or Havocus is the priests name, I'm yet to decide) to try and persuade the enemy general to join your army, then fire up his beacon in his back garden. Just like Gandalf releasing Theodan from Sarumans control in The Two Towers. Has this been used in another persons Cpn or Scenario? Hope not. (Btw no1 better nick my idea :P)

EDIT* I cud just use gaia Sentry Towers couldn't I? OR enemy Sentry Towers for that matter. They do look a little bit like beacons, don't they? Ladders up and fire on top.

Okay I'm going to write down all my Campaign stuff on here. This is how my campaign looks so far;

Chronicles of Varro: Amerstand Unleashed

Scenario One- Escape To The Mountains (A mission which involves you escaping to the mountains with your men and refugees from a near by under-attack city)
Partly Completed

Scenario Two- Forage (This scenario involves you trying to find the provisions you need to survive the hostile surrounding of the mountains. You've got to search the landscape with the pair of scouts you start off with and aquire so much food and wood. This will involve negotiating with the local tribes with the gold you start off with, because the main characters rich)
Yet to be Started

Scenario Three- Ingo van Thiel (An assassination mission similar to that one in Yamato Empire and the Rising Sun but with more stealth involved. Eg. finding hidden entrances into the city rather than forcing your way through the heavily guarded entrance)
Yet to be Started

Scenario Four- The Beacons are Lit (I explained it in an earlier post. You travel a shoreside map lighting beacons telling the main characters homeland navy that he and his allies are under attack)
Yet to be Started

It started off as a three scenario campaign, then went up to five. Now I've evened it out at four. I'm going to save the return to the main characters homeland for the sequal. Andrea Rosa is ging to be called "The City of Priests" in which the main character and his accompanying priest return to in the sequal.

I could of wrote this all on Word... bleh nvm.

wahahahahaa, lol. rofl. ;D

Actually I withdrawed from the contest, because of "unfairness". Imagine I would win a prize (just imagine), Borruma would either get half of it, while I did the most (after he gave up), or nothing at all which would be unfair too.

@ Dark Archer:

Have faith in yourself. Believe me, once you believe in yourself being a good designer and in your scenarios being good it works just from alone.

I did a whole bunch of map design today, and I'm very satisfied with what I did. If you have this feeling, then you're on the right way.

@ Upnotep: I received both mails.

I'll check out the file tomorrow, and then decide which is better, mine which I did with the help of Balazs the Genius, or yours. (probably yours, mine just can't be good ;P)

Thanks a lot.

Anyone know how target evaluation numbers work? Attack type tells you what type of building and attack influence tells whether they target it more or less. That's how you get them to attack villies etc. Surely Andrea will know the answer:

What I want to know is for SNSpecialAttackInfluence what is the maximum number? It is greater than 0 to influence an attack, but how high can it go? I set mine to 100, hoping it is a -100 to 100 scale

Isaiah 13:3-5 : 3I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath- those who rejoice in my triumph. 4Listen...an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war. 5They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens- the Lord and the weapons of his wrath - to destroy the whole country!end

Woohoo! Fall of Jerusalem got 4.6! Thanks guys!

I've worked on my scenario for hours now, but still it doesn't work.

I want the computer to destroy the town the player starts in within 10 minutes.

I gave him phalanxes, catapults, cat triremes, chariots, and lots more, but still it doesn't work.

Mainly because the enemy does not attack.

The ships (owned by player 8) travel down to the grey base after destroying some buildings, the troops the grey player makes do not seem to attack. Instead, the orange player (besieged town), who is defensive attacks the greys.

Player 7 and 8 both have the aggressive per (it doesn't work with super-aggressive either), why don't they attack orange?

I even placed flags under towers and buildings so they know where to attack, still they seem to play more defensive than offensive.

I tested on Moderate difficulty.

Does anybody know a solution? I'm getting sick of testing it over and over again.

I've been thinking about making my campaign in two languages (English, and another file in Spanish). What do you think?

BTW Upnotep, I've sent you another mail.

I had a similar problem. Why don't you try surrounding an enemy unit with your units, and in the CP .per file, set SNPercentEnemySightedResponse to 100. That way, all units will go and help that unit you are attacking.
