Welcome to the AoEH Designers' Board, a thread aimed to gather the last active designers and keep them in contact. The Board shows in alphabetical order people who are currently working on AoE/RoR scenarios and campaigns. To join the Board simply post here and give some little details about your work, such as the game (AoE or RoR), the setting (Historical, Fiction or Fantasy) and the subject (what is your campaign about?). This is also a good place to ask help to other designers, seek for playtesters, post your screenshots, and unleash your design frustrations.

Updates on your progresses are optional, but highly welcome, so if you are working on a multi-level campaign you may post here as you finish a particular scenario, and your status will be updated. Once your game is published, it will be listed among the 'Released Projects'.

Me? I'm from Germany. Bavaria. I live close to LittleFreak, by the way. Well, not close, but compared to others in this forum.
Yesterday in French lessons we learnt the song about the Alouette, supposedly a song very popular among the woodcutters in Québec.
*clears throat*
*Two, three, four*
Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, je te plumerai.
Je te plumerai la tête,
Je te plumerai la tête,
Et la tête, et la tête,

Does anyone know how to add discoveries to your individual victory section? It's something I worked out yesterday, but I realized it had been done in a campaign I played, I just never noticed. It's pretty straight foward when you think of it. Like say, Ingo could have added other victory conditions to Two Brother's "Magic Triangle" scenario (not that it was needed) using individual victory instead of custom global.

Hm.. in the Egypt campaign it was done with setting player 1's VC to research Afterlife. I wonder why though.

No, that would be a bug. Most likely ES thought that discoveries were under IVCs when they are actually in global. The designer would have left the section there by mistake when he/she realised it was in global. Anyway, for some reason they left it on afterlife, which is probably impossible to research in that scenario.

That doesn't solve the puzzle though. How do you add "find a discovery" to your individual victory so you can have other conditions like "bring Jason to the flags" etc as well?

I'm in the mood for a remake of "The Senate And People Of Rome". I'm not going to make radical changes, since I don't want to denaturalize it, however expect a decent detail in the maps, enhanced gameplay, and modified objectives (I'm going to remove lame things such as the "stockpile 3000 food" in the second mission). Other things I will likely fix are the lack of heroes (only the 8th scenario featured one), and some horrible mispellings here and there.

This doesn't really deserve a dedicated thread, so I'll post my updates here. I aim to re-release "The Senate And People Of Rome" early in March, so to not overlap it with the judgement month of the Naval Contest. See you

Hmmm... I've thought about a remake of one of the original AoE/RoR campaigns. Add eyecandy, enhance the VC etc. When I finish the contest, I think I shall have shot at the "Enemies of Rome" Campaign - I'm especially keen to enhance the Hannibal scenario, add some eyecandy like snow etc.
D'you think this could have success?

I thought about something similiar Bismarck, but not exactly the same thing. What I was thinking about is making the Egypt learning campaign on one gigantical map, so it's one scenario. Then add eyecandy, make it more difficult of course and such. I don't know, but I somehow like the idea.

If you remake "Enemies of Rome", remember to make it ROR though because otherwise it would be illegal.

Quoted from Upnotep:

Will you be adding eye-candy?

Of course the maps will be much more enjoyable to see, with no blank areas, however I will not overdo them, so to keep a "first campaign" look.

Apart from Map Design, I'll give priority to not working stuff, typos, boring scenarios and perhaps new bitmaps. This is a rough wish-list:

SCN 1 "Among the Hills"
- The enemy hero will no longer head toward your town.
- Etruscans were represented by Egypt, which made their Chariots too hard to beat: another civ will play the Etruscans.

SCN 2 "Hellenic Spring"
- Different VCs
- Greek Docks will be pre-built, so to avoid the bug of Villagers who quit building them

SCN 3 "The Hammer Falls"
???

SCN 4 "Hannibal At Portas"
- Much more devastating enemy attacks
- Battle of Zama difficulty increased
- Scipio added

SCN 5 "Delenda Carthago Est"
- Scipio added
- Assist of an allied tribe (?)

SCN 6 "Caesar In Gaul"
- Swith civ from Greek to Phoenician in order to get Legions (?)
- Heavy changes to the map (?)

SCN 7 "Veni Vidi Vici"
???

SCN 8 "Tales From The Remote Frontier"
- Working tribute system (in the old version Palmyra never stop asking for gold)
- Remove full-tech tree

I have been thinking to this project since last summer, now it's time to take full advantage of the new upload system and re-release this old work.

I just discovered something strange.

You know how when you have an artifact in a transport, it can't die? So when you sink the 'sport (I'm just making stupid abbreviations now) the 'fact will find it's way to the nearest lnad right? But what if there is no land? Firstly, there must be some to place the artifact on, but if you place it on a cliff by making an all water map with a cliffed in land area, it can't get back there. So if you sink the transport... wait for it... the artifact just remains right there! Perhaps it works just by blocking the coasts off with cliffs, as it won't be able to pass them to get to land I think. Then you could use that as a new trick. I'll test it now anyway.

Damn, I knew that!

As for the artifact, it will find it's way to the nearest land no mater what is in the way, so you need an all water/deep water/cliffs map to get it to work. It's still a nice trick to have a condition of getting an artifact to and island, and you can just have to get the transport close and it will make it across.

How many of you are familiar with the hotkeys? It's been a while since I learned to press the first letter of a unit (or any other list) to bring up the one I want fast, but more recently I discovered that you can toggle between players by pressing their respective number, and you can even toggle Gaia, which is "Player 0" (i.e. press hotkey 0)

I'm pretty familiar with the editor hotkeys, 0 F for Fels = Rock, 0 B for Baum = Tree, etc.

I don't really use ingame hotkeys though, even though I don't know why.

Andrea, you're using an English editor? I thought you'd use the Italian version.

Just a quick question. I have alot of empty space in the scenario I'm working on what should I put in these spaces?

Just look at good maps. I still look at Andrea's (and others, well, no, mainly just Andrea's) maps when designing. I try to just keep a formula in my head, like "Grass and desert patches, walls, flags and paths" as a rough outline for making a town. The most simple formula is to use a lot of Gaia units, and that's what you keep coming back to. Don't forget to splash the map with elevations when you are done, just to make it look realistic.

I have spent a lot of time making a small town in the cliffs where you start in this scenario and I could post some screen shots if you want to see.
BTW this campaign is going to be like LOTR with the creatures that inhabbit it but is definitely not a LOTR campaign.

Edit: Fix typos
