anyone have a fix for when you cheat GAIA and assign a GAIA villager to build a building it crashes the game?
trying to do some perhaps debugging experiment with RockNRoR where i make GAIA do some upgrades to its placed units and then revert back to original player
also i noticed using the medusa cheat also sometimes crashes the game as well when turning villagers into medusa units

that's a funny concept.
Surprisingly, it's not (completely) a bug or a limitation in the game, but it's just... configuration !
The game crashes because the "builder" unit (id=118) does not exist for player #0 (gaia). You can see it in AGE3 -> "nonexistent".
Same thing for all "villager" units other that the basic one (villager, id=83).
If you customize empires.dat with AGE3 to set up all villager units (builder, hunter, etc) just the same as the one from "real" players (egypt, etc), then you should not have a crash anymore.
Don't forget to copy graphics too.
It's a first step, then you'll probably have other limitations (eg maximum population is 0 for gaia I think, you might be able to work around this using triggers in RockNRor : max popluation is the player resource #32)

this reminds me
is this the same as how Fishing Ship isnt placeable in scenario builder as well as the age1 infantry heroes for gaia like xerxes and perseus?

No, for units not placeable in scenario editor, it's related to a flag that indicates if the unit is available or not in scenario editor
Search in AGE3 UI to find this flag, I think its name is quite explicit.

The new RockNRor version (3.0.0.8) includes a new feature that should solve your problem.
When villager units (eg builder) do not exist for GAIA player, then RockNRor automatically adds them (copied from another civilization).
Now you should be able to use any "kind" of villager with GAIA without any crash, and without the need to configure/customize anything
I will add this information in RockNRor topic
