Thanks to the watchful eyes of fellow beta fanatic Litude, I would like to present to you even more fascinating, beautiful, never-seen-before buildings from the early development stages of Age of Empires.

Very early farms.

Two extra types of resources were considered for the game: Oil and Ore.

There are quite a few more buildings of which I am sure you never seen yet - you can view all of the newly discovered renders here.

Credits go to CeaseDaFire (Cpt. Obvious) and Litude.

Great work! Is the Egyptian farm rotated on an non-isometric angle on purpose, or is it only due to the render?

How would oil have fitted into the theme of the game?

@ Eurotool: obviously this is render only, though it might have been used as a placeholder.

@ anterior: Greek fire comes to mind. Other than that it wouldn't serve any purpose, which is why it was scrapped.

Do they know how Greek fire was made?

Isn't oil black? That looks more like salt to me.

technically i dont think oil is black, i think there are actually different variations in color for it though im not quite sure flimmisk, is there any way to possible get these in customize aoe to use in new campaigns.. i could use them....

It could be but it's more likely that the bright parts are just colored sand.
ES had a lot of different ideas that didn't make it to the game. They planned on making a prehistory game before they decided on aoe1 and for the aoe2 beta they had other mechanics in mind like off-map trading, movable town centers, slaver units and raiding units.

Yep, I guess at some early point there were just gathering ideas and some of these ideas were even accompanied by graphics. May be a Civilization like time-frame (including modern times) was considered by some devs - hence the oil.

STOP TORTURING US WITH THESE BEAUTIES THAT WE'LL PROBABLY NEVER SEE *cries in a corner* In a serious note, I truly with we could see buildings in action, but that 8bit engine really crushes those dreams, ahahah :P :3

I've tested them, there are no-little changes when converting most of the buildings to the aoe palette

That's because 99 % of these renders are already rendered using the AoE palette. No color changes should be needed if using them in a mod.

Hmmm where can I install these and use them actively in a campaign? If i did so would I need some sort of patch release for it or would it be ok and work fine with the original version?

SeH: You need to change the .slp files in the graphics.drs file with Turtle Pack after you are done editing and converted the early buildings to the AoE palette.

Thanks to Litude we now have yet another set of new buildings, albeit it is only half a frame:

It is only half visible since the .FLC file where all the latest early buildings come from is partially corrupted

Also, the render with all the Town Centers represent all the early Ages (starting from the Ice Age).

So phatfish, basically texture editing has to happen first? If so I might have a guy who can do it, he is a novice but has played with the concept in another game for me. I would just need to files and everything necessary to do that so I can do that.

You only need photoshop or gimp to cut-out the building and then edit the floor/ground part so it fits in AoE properly, no textures or actual 3dsm files.

The only problem for most of us is converting it to .slp images without errors.

Too bad about the corrupted file. I wanted to take a look at the rest. Like I said before, some of these designs look more appealing than many that made it into the game.

Can u send me those files please? Anything new u have in this, I'm going to have a buddy see what he can do to implement them, also maybe if I'm super lucky have a friend who can possibly fix a corrupted file.. Though it's unlikely, it isnt impossible.

No buildings but interesting nonetheless. It might be possible that we could get our hands on unit models but I'm not sure yet.

Did you see the eagle though? It looks like it's swooping down on something. Can you imagine if eagles would've been agressive like basically every other animal in the game? That would've been so ridiculous.

As was mentioned in the Reddit post, using "Search Google for image" brings up no similar results. Plus the guy said he'd look for the backups over the weekend, so at least give it until Monday to dismiss it. :P
