Hello everyone,,
So, I've been looking around quite a bit; Steam, Facebook, here, ...everywhere else, and I've come up fruitless. I've seen all these comments that Microsoft should wake up and make Age of Empires 4. To finally fulfill the seemingly ever-lasting prophesy made by Ensemble Studios all those years ago. AoE "Prophesy"mobdro.bio/ luckypatcher.tips/ kodi.bio/ .
Would it really played if it did exist? I mean, I feel like we would've made our own by now. Our community has done stuff like this before, ahem, The Forgotten Empires. Yes, it would be pushing a bit farther than just modding the game, we'd have to start from the ground up and legally separate ourselves (unless we could catch the eye of Microsoft and get their support), but back to my previous question: Would it be played? Would it be worth it?
There would be so many questions to be tackled if this was to be done.
Where would the timeline pick back up? How do we categorize and group the time periods such as the Industrial Revolution, WWI, etc? Where would we stop? Research Techs? Air units?! How the heck is that going to fit back into the wonderful unit structure AOE2 already has? (Note, I would hope that the structural basis for this would be AOE2, not AOE3 or Rise of Nations, but that could change. We decide). Are there even people out there who know how to code, photoshop, and design? Java, Python, or C++? Isometric or do we dare do 3d? How would our online systems work as a community? Do we integrate into Steam? How does that even work?! Are there people who would want to do this or even have the time?
Those questions I'd leave up to you. I'm like most of you, a long-time fan of the truly awesome RTS style game that Ensemble Studios made all those years ago. However, I can code, and have a little experience coding games and their mechanics. I know lots of you do amazing artwork -- ITS ALL OVER THE PLACE!
You guys can either shoot me down right here, which I won't take personally (honestly criticism is what makes things a ton better), or we could all do something pretty cool.
Thoughts? You guys let me know. More questions? Fire away.
