That article was published almost 3 years ago, the swedish article that is. Long before these stupid discussions and headlines started appearing. It's in the far north of Sweden where there isn't much to do, so I guess they chose to do something that is actually fun to do.

They asked one of the participants some questions and this is her answers:
– Jag tycker att det här är en bra aktivitet, säger hon.

– Det är kul att lära sig skjuta och vi har roligt tillsammans. Vi skrattar väldigt mycket. Om det här fortsätter till hösten kommer jag absolut att vara med!
Which rougly translates to:
- I think this is a good activity.

- It's fun to learn to shoot and we're having fun together. We laugh a lot. If this continues till autumn I'll definitely join!
So sounds like a shooting range tried something new, and it appealed to quite a lot of "new" arrivers after a slow start-up season. Note that all of these people went to a Swedish high school with focus on language and are from around the world, although most are from muslim countries, I doubt everyone were.

Yeah, in general there are a lot of made-up "news articles" about Sweden circulating in right-wing media, both foreign and domestic ones. So when sites like The New Observer are writing absurdities about our integration politics you should be pretty sceptical about it.

I wouldn't go so far as to call us sane though, we recently had quite a big protest campaign because they removed some guy's drawing of a snow penis.

I question pretty much every bit of news the media brings. One would be a fool to blindly accept everything that gets thrown at you for fact, which is why I asked our regular Swedes for clarification, thank you both.

This is true not for just Sweden alone but for pretty much every country. Left-wing media does the same thing, though with the surge of "refugees" pouring into Europe unchecked things seem to get more chaotic in both camps, which can make it difficult to see the forest for the trees.

On a somewhat related note:

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jan/24/donald-trump-says-he-could-shoot-somebody-and-still-not-lose-voters

The fact he takes his voters for granted (effectively calling them blind sheep) and thinking he can get away with murder says enough, I think.

Well I don't know, maybe we're just becoming more aware of it ourselves, but I definitely feel like these things have become much more frequent in recent times, and I have to say I'm under the impression we're signled out in these kinds of articles a lot more often than other most other countries due to our political commitment.

About Trump he clearly has a point, by this time he has garnered his share of loyal supporters who will stick with him no matter how hyperbole he gets, while he has alienated pretty much every responsible human being. It's not a matter of him seeing his supporters as sheep, he just happens to know them enough to understand that no kind of scandal is going to discourage them anymore. Of course shooting somebody would still mean he had to go to jail, right?

Overconfidence is never a good thing. And of course, he would still be prosecuted.
