Welcome to the Released Projects thread. This thread is used to highlight released projects covering mods and mod tools.

We currently have 36 mods and 26 mod tools listed.

Bear with us as this thread is new, so the format may change over the coming weeks. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

Let us know if we are missing anything or something needs correcting. We will try our best to keep up-to-date with released mods.

You can check out mods/tools that are currently in development in the Current Projects thread. You can also use the mods, utilities or misc categories in the granary download sections for mod-related downloads.

Yes, in the long run. It should also help promote people's work. I will clean both these threads up in the next few days (i.e. add all the mods as required).

The current projects thread has been updated. I will look at getting this thread up-to-date in the next day or two.

update
After around 20 minutes looking into released mods I have come up against a couple of problems.

First, a lot of mods do not have any details (i.e. no forum thread or instructions in the download). I will need to try each of these out to judge the detail required in this thread.

Second, I don't have time to do this right now so will spread this out over a couple of weeks. As I find out what the mod is about I will add the detail here.

Version: 1.3
Released: 13th Dec 1998
Type: Art Mod

Project Thread: N/A

Description:
A very early mod that replaces various graphics and sound effects with hidden resources. You will notice the following changes:

  • Egyptian tileset - Bronze Age Town Center, House, and Wonder
  • Greek tileset - Bronze Age Town Center and House
  • Asian tileset - Iron Age Houses
  • Babylonian tileset - Iron Age Town Center and House
  • Wonder sound effect
  • Eagle changed to a Red Dragon
  • bigdaddy car is now white

    Installation:
The mod comes complete with installation instructions. However, the installation uses DRSBUILD which may not work for you (depending on your system). Fear not, as the mod includes the SLP files so you can update your DRS file using more modern tools. You could also achieve the same effects by reassigning graphics with a tool such as AGE3.

I've got a question, is this really a good idea to mention obsolete mods ?
For example, as you said yourself, "Trade Workshop & Gaia-Extras Template" has no use as it's simpler to use AGE3 (which is still maintained) and AGE3 allows modifying any .dat file.

The templates may be useful for people who don't want to use AGE3 (not all scenario designers want to get into modding as it involves a learning curve). I suppose we can look at filtering the list down better once all mods are listed (maybe use the table format for the better/more useful mods, and just list other mods in a shorter format).

Another example of a mod that could be removed/moved to a quick list is the mod I am looking at now. Its the Star Wars mod. I cannot install it (the installer just doesn't seem to work for me) so have been manually importing graphics. A lot of work has been done but in general it really isn't useful to anyone and very far from complete. Its a mod from 2000 - the only lesson I can see from this mod is that potentially you could replace units with space ships for a space themed total conversion.

Also, there is a mod (listed in the opening thread) known as the wonder mod. In short, it is a really bad mod and cannot see anyone even remotely interested in using it.

This mod replaces grass terrain with a different shade of green. There is a bug in the new graphics when using the terrain with elevation.

    Installation:
The mod comes the SLP files to overwrite the graphics in your terrain DRS file. The mod doesn't come with DRSBUILD or another suitable tool, so you will need to figure out how to import the SLPs yourself.

An add-on that enables land trading through new buildings, units and technologies. The mod is based on the original game (not Rise of Rome).

The trade workshop is available in the tool age, whereby you can train merchants to conduct dock to dock trading. In later ages you can update the merchants to mounted merchants and train trade carts.

You can also train carriers from a labour camp, but the camp and carriers are both for scenario purposes only.

Note that all new buildings, units and technologies are based on pre-existing graphics.

    Installation:
The mod has its own installer, which doesn't impact on your existing installation of Age of Empires. A set of separate executables will be created, one for playing and one for scenario design.

This puts things in perspective and makes evident how much effort was put in this game for over a decade.
A lot of the early works are missing. Looks like the granary was a relatively new feature, as the works found for 1999/2000 seem to be much later uploads from clan and other websites. The mod installer found in the Star Wars mod supports modpacks in some unknown format (it even lists 2 sources for modpacks).

Looks like this will go into the art mod section. Did you do attacking and dying graphics too?

Neither did I... and I didn't really think it would take this long! Mods are nearly done as you can see, then onto the utilities/misc files.

Which of the two triple hit-point templates is the best one? They seem to appear around the same time, and following the discussions on the templates I am not sure if one has more bugs than the other. It looks like scenario_t_c's doesn't include the beta terrain, so possibly the only difference?

    Description:
This mod creates infinite food farms. A number of players still use the pre-patched version of the game so they can use an exploit known as the farm bug. This mod essentially attempts to re-introduce the ability to have an infinite supply of food.

The mod changes the game as follows:
  • Domestication research is now free and almost instance
  • Farms have unlimited food

The only issue is a minor cosmetic bug, as the amount of food in the farm is so large the text overlaps on the interface. However, a farm has no command buttons so there is no real impact.

The two later farm techs are also pretty much redundant.

    Installation:

    Old Version 1.1

    Description:
The Age of Italy is a cancelled total conversion mod based on the history of Rome. Despite being cancelled the mod contains significant work which completely changes the way you play Age of Empires.

The term total conversion is not used loosely for this game. The civilisations, technologies, ages, buildings and units have been completely revamped.

    Civilisation list:
  • Roma
  • Parthia
  • Balkans
  • Celtae
  • Etruria
  • Germania
  • Greece
  • Iberia
  • Italics
  • Karthago
  • Magna Graecia
  • Osci
  • Campania
  • Seleucid Empire
  • Makedonia
  • Ptolemiac Empire

    Ages:
  • Kingdom Age
  • Republican Age
  • Camillan Age
  • Polybian Age

    Features:
  • New unique civs
  • New ages
  • Land trade (market to market)
  • New units and buildings
  • New technology system (including policies)

    Installation:
The mod comes complete with installation instructions. However, you may experience problems on newer operating systems.

You can manually install the mod by first installing Age of Empires with the Rise of Rome expansion (or the Gold Edition). Within the mod's AoIfiles directory you will be able to find modded files. The language.dll and languagex.dll files replace the files in the game's main directory. You can then use the AoIData files to replace files in your data directory, and AoIData2 files to replace files in your data2 directory. Remember to backup your original files beforehand.
