A feature formerly only found in Age of Kings, now has made it's way to Age of Empires! As per special request from me, Chab has now added this wonderful tool to CustomizeAoE. If you have ever tinkered with AoK's editor you probably know the power of Map Copy. It can copy parts of a scenario onto other scenario's, or add the same part somewhere else on the map without having to design it all over again. Or even copy an entire map to another! This saves you an enormous amount of time, in case you want to re-use certain scenes or design features again.

In Age of Empires, it works the same way as in AoK. When you press F4 in the scn editor - you can select the "zone" or part of the map you want (providing the relative coordinates, along the x/y axis of the tile based map), from the beginning coordinate point to the end. Then, select wether you just want terrain or also want to include all objects present, and then press the Copy zone button. Set the coordinates where you would like to paste the copied part, and then press Paste and then the OK button - voila! You can also use the mouse-coordinates (activated by default, or press F2 when you have not selected a unit to see the current x/y position) to paste the zone exactly under your mouse cursor. Everything is preserved - from terrain to elevation to unit orientation.

Try it out and download CustomizeAoE!

Mind that if you upload someone else's work (or a copied part of it) to the downloads section it will be removed, and you will get a warning and a possible ban.

This is so cool! Too bad I don't have aoe1 installed on this machine! Will have to try it out sometime this week!

Now all you need is the feature to change the player color of units in the copied map section

Maybe it's only a fool who'll perilously journey out to what might not be there. But if you want to solve problems, you don't just solve the ones that are there, you find more and make more and go after the impossible ones.
The neanderthals never ventured into the unknown and they went extinct, so who are the fools?

I needed this years ago and remade an entire map several times because we didn't have one.

Epd999: do you mean change unit owner (unit's player) in editor ?

I admit such a feature is really missing in editor, that's why I'm adding a dropdown in Unit properties (F2) in editor so you can change a unit's player.

I'm also modifying the Unit edition popup so that you can edit more than 1 unit at once. For example, select 3 units (using shift or CTRL), press F2, change unit owner => all 3 units become red instead of blue.

Note for trigger users: the unit owner (color) change feature does preserve unit IDs, which means if you have triggers on it they will still work.

It takes so much time to build cool maps, and even when they are worth the effort, any way we could save time will always be appreciated by me!

Thanks for sharing this with the community.
