These are not your typical AoE buildings, at least not those found in the version you currently own. They are from the development stages of Age of Empires and offer a glimpse into what has been lost during the finalizing process. Here we have two new buildings:

Early Barracks:

Early Pyramid:

Although the Pyramid has been available for your viewing pleasure it was only partially visible (cut out and taken from an AoE trial screenshot), but this time it is here in full glory. Seems ES went through quite a few changes for the common Barracks as well. If you are interested in seeing other beta buildings, units and screenshots of the early stages of the game, go here.

Amongst the other new materials found are original 3D Studio Max renders for many of the buildings found in AoE, which 3D artists Sean and Duncan McKissick, former members of Ensemble Studios, created - which is an amazing discovery. I have had the pleasure of viewing most of these already - but there is a catch - only a few of the textures and materials used in these renders still exist and therefore almost all buildings cannot be rendered into their original state (in understandable language: this means only the "building skeleton" is available). Below is a 3DSM screenshot of a Town Center that never saw the light of day:

There is more to come.

I don't know if it is because of the 'never before seen' factor or what, but in general I like more the non released late stage models than the ones that made it into the released game :P

I'm interested in the unit animations more than anything, when do you think you could get those up?
Though I think I prefer this pyramid over the in game one... how many pyramids did they do?

Maybe it's only a fool who'll perilously journey out to what might not be there. But if you want to solve problems, you don't just solve the ones that are there, you find more and make more and go after the impossible ones.
The neanderthals never ventured into the unknown and they went extinct, so who are the fools?

There are only building renders, not units or animations, unfortunately. There are at least 3 pyramid wonders before used before the retail version one.

I would have never guessed the buildings were made out of renders. Especially for bitmap graphics in a strictly 2D game, made at a time where 800x600 was a norm. Amazing find.

Like I asked in the other post, is it possible to implement these in a patch? or make them available in say the editor?

"In 1678 doctors diagnosed a mental affliction soldiers suffered from as 'nostalgia' - homesickness, a longing to return to the past. The cruel reality of war is that there is no return home. No return to innocence. What is lost, is lost forever. Like my father, war's wounds have bled me dry. No words of comfort; no words of forgiveness. No words at all."

As aoe_scout mentioned in the other post... you can do this with Age and Turtle pack, no need to code anything. You may want to edit these in gimp or photoshop first however, the ground the render is on should be edited and made transparent for the most part.
