If you have ever fooled around with the scenario editor of Age of Kings (or AoC), you most likely know it has something called a trigger system - which is very versatile in that it allows many effects to be achieved using a simple "check" mechanism that "fires" an effect once a certain condition is met. Like pushing a button at a certain point in time. The way they can be used is simple but amazing and very effective, basically you are no longer bound by limitations - only your imagination.
But Age of Empires does not have a real trigger system, but Victory Conditions, which are very limited (they work fine though). There are of course so called "Dynamics" (look it up in the scn design forum) which are a sort of sub-triggers created using in-game objects. Examples of these can be found in campaigns like Ingo van Thiel'sThe Tai Gun (look it up in the Granary, you'll love it).
ForumerJustTesting1234 has announced that he is working on an actual trigger-system add-on for Age of Empires in the form of a .dll file. Successfull tests have already been done and progress is being made to get this beyond the alpha stages. Like many others I myself have always wanted an AoK-like trigger system in AoE. If you'd like to see it as well, post your reply in the forum topic and support JustTesting1234!
Another thing I think is worth mentioning is that if this is actually realized (which it hopefully will!) and working properly, we might see more activity and members from Age of Kings Heaven too, which could make the community more alive.
This is one of the greatest breakthroughs in both scenario design and modding ever. Suffice it to say, it is a great time for Age of Empires fans.
The Heavenly Escort • Night of the Dragon • Corlis (DE) • Dark Forest 2v2 (DE) • New Random Maps • Night Mode • Lengthen Combat Mode • The Big Hill • 512x512, 768x768, 1024x1024 map sizes • All Map Sizes • All Map Sizes (AoK) • BTI Soundtrack
