Topic Subject:Fertile Crescent: copycat or interesting take on AoE1?

Heya fellas was just checking out this heavily AoE inspired game called Ferticle Crescent (gameplay video)

As some commentators pointed out the game is similiar to AoE to the extent I would fear legal action if placed on steam for sale, but it seems somewhat interesting. The question is does it advance the gameplay while retaining the old AoE spirit or is it merely a derivative work not able to stand on its own? Also been compared to AoE Online which isnt promising.

Was wondering if any of you fellas played both AoE Online and Fertile Crescent and what you think of it. I am interested and will try it out as I desire an AoE1 with a bit more modern quality of life features although the graphics are not so great, although I dont mind them, reminds me of simcity2000 a bit.

As someone mentioned in the youtube comments, that main menu background is directly stolen from AoE online.

Seems like a crude and very early but interesting AoE-like game, but if it can innovate on the formula, it could turn out nice.

I like how it implemented concepts for water and fertile land and how there seems to be a food consumption. It adds some basic CB dynamics to the otherwise tried and true RTS economy formula.

The simple graphics don't bother me so much, in fact I think there's a certain charm to the pixel style. I'll definitely keep an eye out for how this develops in the future.

How's 0AD doing while we're at it?

Ah, nice. The graphics are a bit too basic and it is almost a carbon copy of AoE, but I'll like any game set in ancient times that has the AoE gamestyle. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Apparently 0AD is at the twenty-third alpha version...
