Nineveh

Campaign Walkthroughs

Nineveh

Oh my! Okay, your reaction may be a little more obscene than that, but you’re going to hate this scenario by the time you finish. You start off with a handful of Scout Ships and some Light Transports, but no ground units. You do have a ton of resources, but you’re stuck in Bronze Age and have no Villagers to gather more resources. Or any Villagers to build a Town Center so you can change ages.
To start, you’ll need Priests. Build at least one, preferably with the most upgrades you can get at this level, and start building a second for when you lose the first. You’ll go through Priests quickly in this scenario.
Load your Priest in a Transport and drop him off directly across the water from your Dock. You should see a Grey Villager working in the woods, convert him and use him to build a Storage Pit. You may luck out and get to use him to chop some Wood, and he may even reach the shore, but don’t count on it, he’ll probably get wasted by a Yellow Heavy Catapult.
So, use your Priest to convert the first Yellow Villager that wanders by, and have your transport standing by. Grab the Villager and your Priest and high-tail it back home. Have the Villager build a Town Center and the Priest heal him, and then start pumping out Villagers and setting them to chop Wood.
Research Woodcutting in the Market, and then Artisanship, The Wheel and eventually Craftsmanship. You want the wood cutting bonuses and the range bonuses. Research War Galley at the Dock, and start building War Galleys, you’ll need far more than you started with.
Very shortly the Ninevah player will begin the Wonder. Don’t get scared, it’s being built by a single Villager, and he’ll do nothing else until it’s built. Concentrate on defending yourself from the raids that’ll begin and on building an army to take down that Wonder.
Use your navy to sink approaching Transports and your Priests to convert anything they can reach. You’ll get Red Triremes and Catapult Triremes, and if you can convert them it’s less Wood you’ll need to build them. You’ll also see Yellow War Galleys, and as soon as you can sail Northwest and destroy the Yellow Dock. Destroy the Yellow Transports and you’ll stop the raids as well.
Go to Iron Age as soon as possible, and research all the Priest upgrades you can. Also research Engineering, Alchemy and Ballistics at the Government Center, plus all the upgrades to Bowmen at the Archery Range. Composite Bowmen will be very handy when you invade Ninevah. Start a few Stone Throwers as well.
When the Yellow naval threat is gone, sail you navy Northeast and you’ll find an island guarded by four Towers. Take down the Towers and Transport a half-dozen Villagers here, you’ll find Berry Bushes, Gold, Stone and plenty of Wood. Start collecting.
Keep your fleet repaired, and as soon as you research Catapult Triremes start producing them as well. Use your fleet to take out any Red units patrolling the coastlines, and sink any enemy vessels. The Red player will run out of Wood and stop building a fleet before long, and the seas are secure.
Now use your navy to pummel the defenses of Ninevah. Across from your resource island is a natural landing beach, but you’ll need to take out Towers, Catapults, Ballistas, Elephant Archers and a whole slew of other units. Take out what you can from the sea, especially Towers, and then land a few Transports with Composite Bowmen and Priests. Use the Priests to convert anything they can, and the Composite Bowmen to keep the enemy from the Priests, and eventually you’ll secure the beach.
Build a Temple, Dock, Siege Workshop and two Archery Ranges on your resource island, and start cranking out units. At your Stable back home, build a few Cavalry and bring them up on a Transport. Upgrade to Heavy Transports to get the most across at once. Load a half-dozen Villagers on a Transport with the Cavalry too.
When you have the beach cleared as far inland as your Catapult Triremes will reach, and you have all the upgrades to Priests, Archers and Siege Weapons you can get, including Hand-to-Hand bonuses, build up to fifteen Composite Bowmen and land them, Five Priests, Five Villagers and a few Cavalry on the beach. They’ll all come under fire immediately, but your goal is to convert anything you can, kill all the rest and survive on the beach.
Use your Villagers to build Towers to guard your beach head, and if they survive build an Archery Range as well. Heal anything you can, and be producing units full-tilt at your resource island so you can send in a second wave. In the second wave, put in five Stone Throwers and a bunch of Composite Bowmen.
Use your original Cavalry to take out Priests and Siege Weapons, ignoring all else. When you’ve got the enemy ground forces destroyed on the beach, use the Catapults to take down the Towers, then assemble your forces and move towards the Wonder. By this time it’ll probably be standing.
Use the Composite Bowmen to keep the enemy at bay, the Cavalry to take out Priests and the Catapults to attack the Wonder. Keep sending reinforcements in and keep pounding away. There are no Villagers to repair the Wonder, so every shot helps, use Composite Bowmen when they don’t have anything better to shoot at. Eventually, if you’re ahead in the race, the Wonder will come down, often getting real close to the wire. The key in this scenario is to crank out the resources and units, control the seas early to assure a defense, and ignore the entire West side of the map. The Wonder is your goal.
As an end note, this scenario will have to be restarted for most people, and it may benefit you to do so. The first run through, I never converted any Villagers, but I did send five Cavalry through Ninevah and succeed in killing the Villager at the Wonder. This way, the Wonder never finishes and you have plenty of time to take it down. Unfortunately while doing this I lost my Transports and used up my Wood on a navy, do I couldn’t get any Villagers and couldn’t build any more Transports.
