I Shall Return

Campaign Walkthroughs

I Shall Return

This scenario is pretty much run away and regroup, and you start off in deep trouble. Run with all your forces to the Transport, making sure to get at least one Villager off the island intact. Head East and disembark, then set up shop far from the coast, building a Town Center and starting over. Be careful of the Lions, you don’t want to lose your Villager to carnivores.
Build up as fast as you can, foraging the Berry Bushes, chopping Wood and rebuilding your forces. Move to Bronze age as soon as possible, be sure to build a Market and start farming for food production, the Gazelles and Berry Bushes run out way too soon.
Once you’re in Bronze and have a decent stockpile of Wood, start mining Stone and build a Dock. Build a few Fishing Boats, but be aware that the enemy is far ahead of you and Triremes will soon come calling. Shortly after that, the invasions will start, usually with Catapults. Build shore Towers and keep them upgraded to repel invasions and maybe even take out a Trireme or two. Keep Villagers repairing them and your Dock and you’ll eventually be free of sea invaders.
Now start building War Galleys, about six should do to start. Make sure you research Woodworking and Artisanship at the Market, you’ll need both the Wood bonus and the range on your weapons. When you have a decent sized navy, start hunting down the enemy Triremes and sinking them. The object here is to gang up on the Trireme and sink it, forcing your enemy to expend resources to re-produce it. Eventually you want to work your way North and around the West side of his island, and take out his Dock. Keep pounding away at it and any Villagers that come to repair it, as well as the Triremes that’ll pop up regularly. Build more War Galleys if need be and keep them firing.
Eventually you’ll have cleared the seas and can concentrate on Food and Gold for the jump to Iron Age. As soon as you get there, upgrade to Triremes and research Catapult Triremes, then use your fleet to pound the coastlines. Take out any military units, especially Ballistas and Catapults, then start taking out Farms and Houses. Eventually your opponent will have stripped his island of resources, and you’ll start to turn the tide.
Build a Siege Workshop and a Temple for your move to Iron Age, and start producing Catapults and Priests, researching the Priest upgrades. Also start pouring out Bowmen and Swordsmen, or Chariots if you prefer. Build two Heavy Transports, since you probably lost the one you came over on, and load them with your forces. Clear the beaches with your navy, then land and prepare for heavy battle.
Use your Priests to convert enemy Villagers and use those Villagers to build a Tower to protect your landing site, and use Bowmen to keep the enemy at bay while taking down buildings with your Catapults. Keep your fleet moving and shooting, and eventually the enemy will run out of resources to produce anything useful against you. After that, it’s a matter of laying waste to everything in sight for the win.
