Holy Man

Campaign Walkthroughs

Holy Man

This scenario may seem confusing, and it can be a little tough if you’re not careful, but it really is less difficult than it seems. You need to eliminate your foes, and all you start with is a Priest. First off, stay away from the Red guys, they’ll whomp your Priest as soon as he tries a conversion, ending the game. Move North, then East across the shallows until you come to the Yellow town, and start by converting a Villager.
Have this Villager build a Town Center, toward the Southeast, behind the forest next to the Berry Bushes is a good spot. As soon as it’s built, start foraging the Berry Bushes and go convert another Villager. Continue converting the Yellow Villagers to build your own force, and put half on wood and the rest on Food, either Berry Bushes or hunting. As soon as you have the Wood, build Houses, you’ll need them soon enough. Build about three or four to start, then take three Villagers and move Northeast to where you’ll find an Elephant and some Gold, as well as Stone and Wood. Build a Storage Pit and hunt the Gazelles here, then the Elephant, and when they’re exhausted go for the Stone.
In the meantime, build a Barracks right near your Town Center, and go for Tool Age as soon as you have the Food. Build three or four Clubmen and upgrade them to Axemen as soon as possible, and start an Archery Range in the same area as soon as you change ages. By now you should have converted all the Yellow Villagers and be producing a few of your own, so build a Market, research Woodcutting and build a Granary to the North, where you’ll find some more Berry Bushes.
Put all your efforts into Wood and build up a force of Bowmen, they’re the best defense you’ll have for now. As soon as you get a Granary, research Watch Towers and build one next to your Archery Range and Barracks, it’ll help the eventual onslaught. When you get the Wood stockpiled, build a Dock to the North on the inlet, making sure you are in an area where you can maneuver your fleet past the Dock. Build three Scout Ships and move West to the junction of the rivers, you’ll find the enemy fleet soon enough. Sink it as soon as you see it, and keep your fleet repaired and/or replaced as needed.
Once you have six or eight Bowmen, some Axemen and a few extra Villagers, move back West and build a Tower on the shore at the shallows. Build a second if you can, this will help keep the Red hordes at bay. Use your Villagers to build a second Dock at the South end of the map, and start two more Scout Ships here. Also put out a few Fishing Boats, and start collecting Food so you can move to Bronze Age.
You’ll often find that the Red player has built a Granary on your side of the river, use your Axemen to take it down and your Bowmen to take out any Villagers coming to repair it. Use your Priest to keep everyone healed, but never get him in danger, it’ll be a while before you can replace him. Upgrade Hand-to-Hand Attacks, as well as Archer and Infantry Armor as much as possible. By now, your ships should have cleared the river, and you can move West to eliminate the enemy Dock.
Go to Bronze Age as soon as you can, and upgrade your Barracks units as well as your Archery units. Research The Wheel, as well as Artisanship, and keep your Villagers mining Stone and cutting Wood. Use the two Villagers you built the Towers with and build a Storage Pit to the South, and start mining Gold here. Start producing Composite Bowmen and Chariot Archers, as well as Broad Swordsmen and build an army of about twenty units total.
When you have your army, move back across the shallows and kill all the enemy Villagers near the Gold and Stone. Move about four of your own Villagers across, build a Storage Pit and a Siege Workshop, and start mining Gold and Stone. A Tower here will also help, but you probably won’t be counter attacked by now. Build three Stone Throwers, then group your units and move West, laying waste to anything Red. Use the Stone Throwers to flatten buildings, your Archery units to protect the Stone Throwers and your Barracks units to pin down any opposing military units. Heal everything with your Priest and keep moving until the Red player is eliminated.
Now it’s a simple matter of turning your Stone Throwers on the Yellow buildings and pulling in the win.
