Citadel

The object here is to capture the Ruins and build two Sentry Towers next to the Ruins. It seems that the Sentry Towers don’t really need to be next to the Ruins, anywhere on the map seems to fulfill the victory conditions. Nevertheless, conserve Stone, you’ll need it and there isn’t much on the map. To start, harvest the Berry Bushes and chop wood. Build a Barracks and an Archery Range as soon as possible, and crank out Bowmen especially. You’ll need a ranged weapon for defense. Build a Dock, either at the North of your starting point or to the West. Build a few Scout Ships to defend yourself, plus a few Fishing Boats. Research Wood Cutting in the Market, plus Stone Mining, and upgrade to Axemen, though that’s not critical. Build a Transport at your Dock and put two Villagers and three Axemen on it, and land on the island to your West. Use your Scout Ships to take out any defending Axemen first, then build a Storage Pit and put the Villagers on mining the Stone here.
Upgrade Ages as soon as you can, and research the Towers as you get to a new age. When you have about ten Bowmen, take them and five Villagers Northeast and across the shallows. You’ll find enemy resistance, but you’ll also find a Gold mine. Build a second Archery Range here, plus a Siege Workshop and a Temple, then build a Storage Pit and start mining Gold. You can also build one Tower here to help in the defense, but only one, you need the Stone.
Build a Government Center back near your starting point, then build a second Town Center near your Gold mine. You’ll actually start moving out from here. Build up to four Scout Ships and upgrade to War Galleys, then follow the water to the Northwest and find the enemy Dock. Destroy it, even at the loss of your fleet, and you won’t be bothered from the sea again.
As you move up the coast toward the Dock, you’ll see a Tower to the West as well as Stone and Gold. Place a fleet here to keep the Stone from being mined and you’ll keep the enemy Tower building at a minimum. The only other Stone is far to the North, and you can move a fleet to the Northeast and through the narrow channels to reach that mine, but it’s usually mined out before you get there.
Your strategy now is to mine Gold as fast as you can, keeping the enemy at bay. Build about a dozen Bowmen at your Northern Archery Range, and start the upgrades at the Temple. You’ll want all the upgrades, plus you’ll want to produce three Priests. As you go, build three Stone Throwers as well. Keep patrolling the coastal areas picking off any Axemen, Bowmen or Scouts you see. Once your Villagers on the island to the West have mined out the Stone, have them hunt the Gazelle there, then chop the trees. When you’ve stripped the land, take your Axemen and Villagers across the shallows to the West and build a second Tower right at the crossing. You’ll get killed off by the enemy, but you should get the tower built and it ought to hold them at bay on that side. If your Villagers survive, bring them back across the shallows and build a third Archery Range, you can produce Bowmen there to harass the enemy’s rear.
There are basically four ways to get to the Ruins, which are in the Northwest. You can make an amphibious landing at the break in the cliffs dead center on the map, but you’ll find the Towers there pretty tough to fight. You can also build up on the Western island and move across the shallows, but it’s tough to reach much there very easily. You can move across the shallows from your Northern settlement, and it’s not too hard except it’ll be pretty well defended by the time you’re ready to move. So the best route is circling in from the Northeast. From your Northern Town Center, move out with a dozen Bowmen, three Priests and Three Stone Throwers. Loop North, then West, and have the Bowmen take out enemy units, the Stone Throwers take out enemy buildings, and your Priests heal your wounded plus convert enemy Scouts and Bowmen. You can use all the recruits you can get.
As you move back toward the center of the map, you’ll need to take out Towers, then Barracks or Archery Ranges, then Houses and the enemy Town Center. From there it’s mopping up. Take out the Towers as soon as they’re in range, and let your Bowmen keep the enemy military at bay. Keep moving West, and when you get to the Ruins you should get the win. If not, it’s because the two Towers you built haven’t been upgraded, or possibly the Victory Conditions work differently on some games. Build two more Towers next to the Ruins and you should win.
