Another Angel Makes it into Heaven Taunts for Age of Empires Age of Empires Walkthrough – Part One (of Four) Here’s a sort of Assyrian walkthru. Life is complicated somewhat by large amounts of water, so I’ll assume you’re on an inland or highland map and won’t discuss water units/tactics until the end. Pick Random Map from the Single Player options. Set your civilization to be the Assyrians. Set the difficulty level, map type, and number of enemies as desired. The easiest civilizations to beat are probably the Shang and Minoans on a land map. Please note that I have absolutely no idea how well this strategy will work against other human players, nor have I tried it against 4 or more enemy civilizations or on the “hardest” difficult level. Stone Age – Your three objectives are to (1) progress to the Tool Age, (2) locate a forest and (3) locate a source of stone. Start by having 1 of your 3 villagers build two houses and by sending the other 2 in search of food. As soon as you locate a substantial source of food (berry bushes, herd of gazelles, two or more elephants) build the appropriate structure (berries=Granary, meat=Storage Pit) nearby. Start cranking out villagers and harvesting food resources. Send a villager or two off to find the forest and the stone. If you haven’t built a Storage Pit yet, try to place it near the forest or the stone. Set a villager or two to chopping wood. Everybody else should be gathering food. Your first two houses (and the Town Center) will support 12 villagers, which should get you to the Tool Age, but build more if you need to. As soon as you can upgrade to the Tool Age, do it. Start to move villagers from food gathering to wood chopping. Build one or two more houses in preparation for a population increase. – Roger Avedon Co-operative Multi-player Games Club: Care to join?… 1. Teams are a matter of personal preference. The members of this group, however, like to exchange partners frequently, so that they are exposed to different ways and strategies, and learn with them. 2. Members play when they have time and set-up the games either via online chatting via “AOL Instant Messeger”, or Internet e-mail. 3. Games are set-up by agreeing first which is the type of map (most important), who’s teaming up with whom that time, and which resources to use (high, preferably, so that games on the Internet will not last forever…). 4. The game victory conditions are always “Conquest”. Players may choose otherwise if in agreement, but this is the accepted default. 5. Always, with no exception, this rule will be respected : ALL games are “Allied Victory” only. No single player victory will be acknowledged by anyone. This group is strictly co-op, period. 6. It is considered acceptable practice to set up co-op games against a team of computer players. Nevertheless human players are quite more demanding than computer players, so this practice may not help much in developing good MP strategies. 7. This is only a game. No member of the group will ever develop sour feelings against any other member, for the simple reason that people are the only important thing in the world and a game is just a game… If you agree, please leave your data in this thread, I will start arranging things with you as soon as we have enough members to start (say, half a dozen?…) – Leo Brum No Scenarios Added today Best Playing and Scenario Tips will be posted in Daily News |

Campaign Builder Utility Updated! V1.2 Smog’s Age of Empires Contest Today’s Random Thought(s) – So Much for Catapults Sure Nelson, cats getting gung ho at the sight of cavalry and rumbling to their certain destruction is historically just not on–no question. It’s tiresomely annoying too. True as well that the ‘hold your position’ command is not much more than stopgap. However, my reply to my fellow Dutchman dealt specifically with friendly fire, not with cats having a mind of their own when they spot an enemy. Sorry old chap, but as a translator/writer, not sticking to the point is my raw nerve, Nelson. Speaking of which, I was just wondering, Nelson, what’s inaccurate, historical or otherwise, about non-smart friendly fire and an admittedly crude simulation of collateral damage from a cat? Oh, and uh, I find that a little ‘willing suspension of disbelief’ on collat cat damage, pop limit and at least a dozen other contentious ‘features’ in AOE avoids putting a damper on my enjoyment of this compelling game. But, not to worry, I’m sure that AOE II will also cater a bit more to historically more exacting persons such as yourself who have ‘been there, done that’ and would like to see this more accurately reflected. Peace? – Alexander I You can read the whole thread between Nelson & Alexander I – here. Boy, with all the great grammar these two are using – it reminds me of my high school english class. These two have a great well thought out comments about Age of Empires – well worth your time to read and enjoy! – The Archangel Strategy – Game Playing Tip One Scenario Added today Best Playing and Scenario Tips will be posted in Daily News |

This Weeks Must Read File! Archangel is Back Age of Empires Tourny Game Playing Tips As you know the priests are the best distraction for a flanking attack, but with more timing you can distract your opponent with priests then attack with your army quickly. When he turns his army on yours, convert his buildings one by one, then send in your navy last for a pie in the face. The key is to make it look like a distraction, in reality the full blunt force of your attack. – Mataio Wilson Spot wall strategy; The main idea is to explore as much of the map as possible and then identify all the enemy activities in the explored area. You should start exploring right in the beginning and during the tool age accompany your lonely peasant with another and a scout. As soon as you can research the simple wall, do it! From that on leave small wall pieces everywhere (they cost only 5 stone each!) You should start the spot walling by surrounding the enemy area and then go gradually toward your home base. The spots should form a gridlike pattern. After that it’s easy to control the enemy.
