How do I play?

After you've activated your ladder account you can find other people who've signed up on the ladder to play. By viewing their profiles you'll get any contact information they have. If they have none we advise posting in the relevant Challenge Thread in the Multiplayer Forum. Also note that before you begin a game you should specify that it is indeed a ladder game.

Reporting Games

The winner of a game will post the results using the ladder program. They must also upload a screenshot of the victory screen at the end of their game.

If it is a team game the winning team must choose a player to post the results. Results are based on the honor system. Should it come out that you've been cheating you will be banned from the ladder. We sincerely hope that we'll never need to ban someone for making up results. If there is a disagreement of any sort please contact a Moderator or post it in the relevant Thread in the Multiplayer Forum and we will attempt to resolve it. If, over time it seems that you are at the root of multiple disagreements and are not being a good sportsman you may also be banned from the ladder.

A Rules Summary

  1. Before the game begins you must specify that it is indeed a ladder game.
  2. Only team games in which all of the participants are members of the AoEH Ladder will count towards the ladder. Again, all players must agree that it is indeed a ladder game.
  3. Trust is assumed! However, it is a very good idea to take a screenshot of the winning screen and submit it with the game. Submitting a screenshot is not required, but is encouraged to prevent disputes. Screenshots must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats. Recorded games are useful as well but since they're not always accurate a screenshot is better proof. Anyone caught lying or cheating will automatically be removed from the ladder.
  4. Submitted screenshots must have your forum name clearly visible. Many people use names that have no relation to their forum identity whatsoever, and I cannot keep track of such things. Any screenshots submitted without clear indication of the participants (forum name used as game name) will be deleted along with the accompanying game.
  5. Disconnections: If you disconnect you will forfiet the game. This may sound harsh but too many arguments can arise from disconnections. If a player disconnects before or during the army arrangement stage the game does not count against him but he should come back to the lobby as soon as he can. If this happens in a team game the remaining players should continue to play. Unless everyone in the game is fine with the game not counting, the game will be counted in the case of a disconnect.
  6. Desynchronized Games: If the game becomes desynchronized, please contact a Moderator or post it in the relevant Thread in the Multiplayer Forum and we will try to resolve it. There is no standard routine for dealing with desynchronization, since the circumstances are nearly always different.
  7. Smurfing will not be tolerated.
  8. All wins must be reported to this thread within a 24 hour period. If there are any disputes, they should also be posted in the relevant Thread in the Multiplayer Forum within the same 24 hour period.
  9. You cannot play the same person twice within a 24 hour period.
  10. Attempts to distort the spirit of this ladder (such as through being involved in multiple disputes about who won, smurfing, etc) can result in being removed from the ladder or otherwise penalized.
  11. The Ladder Moderators reserve the right to add, remove, or otherwise modify the rules if required to maintain the integrity of the ladder. All changes to the rules will be announced in the relevant Thread in the Multiplayer Forum prior to coming into effect.

Suggestions and Bug Reporting

If you have a suggestion for a feature that could be added to the ladder post here and if it's a good one chances are it may be implemented. If so, or you've found a bug please email the Ladder Moderators and cc a copy to Angel Mace (mace@heavengames.com).

Ranks

  • Expert - 100 points or higher
  • Skilled - 75-99.5 points
  • Intermediate - 50-74.5 points
  • Rookie - 25-49.5 points
  • Newbie - 0-24.5 points
  • ZeroGamer - 0 points and no games played

1 vs. 1 Scoring

In a 1v1 game, the gain/loss of points is determined by the winner's skill level. For example, if the winner is a rookie (Score > 25), and the loser is a newbie (Score 0-24), the rookie would gain 3 points, and the newbie would lose half that much (in this case, 3/2, or 1.5 points). There are no negative scores, so 0 is the lowest possible score one can have. If the loser is an expert (Score > 100) and the winner is a newbie, the newbie would gain 18 points and the expert would lose 18/2, or 9 points. The following is a table that lists how many points gained/lost depending on which level you defeat.

Loser\WinnerZeroGamerNewbieRookie IntermediateSkilledExpert

Newbie1\23\61.5\31\20.5\10.5\1

Team Scoring

Team games can have anywhere from 1-4 players on a team, but the teams must be even. The score is calculated by adding the ratings of all the winners and all the losers then calculating the difference between the two (losing team rating subtracted from the winning team rating, negative numbers can occur), which is then matched up with the team-scoring table.
