I must say at the outset that this campaign is purely fictional. The names, dates and characters may seem familiar with actual historical events but are completely out of context with actual happenings. This is the story of Alexander, a young man whose parents are brutally murdered, and his quest for revenge. It is set in alternative historic Greece where Romans rule but rebellion ferments. Alexanders quest will take him on a journey from his mountain home to the very heart of the Roman Empire. In this first of a 2 part campaign, Alexander will have to avenge his parents, find and kill the leader of the assassins, save a young hero from a lost battle with the Romans, defend a rebellious Greek city from the Romans and capture a massive fortress. Alexander will have to use all his guile and battle skills to accomplish his missions. Warning ! The scenarios contain large blocks of text that are integral to the story, the scenarios are generally quite difficult but are balanced enough to provide easy solutions to most of the problems. This campaign is probably not for the faint hearted.. do you have the courage of Alexander ? ...play on ! NB The hints are broad but should be sufficient to finish each scenario please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any problems.
An extremely nice piece of work!! Truly wonderful story about a young Greek hero, Alexander, and his effort to avenge the death of his parents and achieve freedom from Rome for his people, among whom there are factional struggles for power. Excellent intro maps, an innovative and useful supplementary text to illustrate the key characters, very good terrain maps; neat cave in 1st scenario. Nice towns/cities/bridges/pathways throughout. Balance quite good; CP puts up a good fight in the big battles. In quests/searches/puzzles, your hero often fights alone, and cannot always get healed - barely making it to his objective sometimes. My high opinion of this campaign by Steve Ryan, the author of the all-time classic The Relay, is diluted a little by two small problems - the Victory Condition in Scenario 2 didn't work for me, and on occasion the story and the units in the scenario didn't match well. Definitely a fine campaign which is very much worth a download & play.
