Well, it is my first campaign. I know it can't be that great because it is my first, and the story is bad, and pointless, and it doesn't have anything to do with history and stuff like the other ones, and the map design isn't too great, (hey man you can't blame me it is my first campaign). Anyway that is enough insulting my first campaign. I took advantage of the HERO'S the game provided you with. And in order for you to lead your tribe as a HERO, you must pass tests. In one test you are on a Cavalry (Alexander) and in one you are on a Chariot (Tiberius), etc. The first couple of scenarios aren't that good, cause I wasn't focusing on map design, more the objective. I am not going to give descriptions of each scenario right now. If you want to know, download it. :) Well it isn't the greatest, but it is my first. Tell me what you think of it. Thanks. Updated 1998/11/16 This is the updated version.. the old version was boring and easy.. so instead of making another one I decided to edit my first..... I took out a scenario and edited 3 others.. I hope it's not as boring now..
This is a decent campaign with a good idea and a good storyline that falls somewhat short on execution and implementation. The story is that you are a hero who needs to complete a series of tests to prove yourself a worthy ruler over your people. The tests range from solving a maze, killing elephants and running a gauntlet to full scale land and sea battles. The concept is wonderful and the variety is good. The problem is that most of the scenarios are quite easy and pretty boring. The maze scen is really just walking around the map forever as it's not so much of a maze as it is spiraling walls. The gauntlet was a little scary until you realized you could just run for it and win in less than a minute. The elephant killing was super easy as you are given the archer hero who has no problems with eles. From here, the problems really started creeping in. There are a series of conquest style scens that just beg to be home runned. They are all Post-Iron Age battles against an inferior opponent. The only real challenge is finding that last couple enemy units on the map and that's not my idea of fun. There is one scen that requires you to transport troops into the enemy base and that one was pretty nice. The last two scenarios are real failures though. The naval battle is unwinable since there is deep water all along your shoreline and you can't build a dock. The last scen is just a huge forest with one enemy somewhere inside....chop trees until you find him. I have no idea who would view this as fun but that's what the scen calls for. There are some good things in this campaign and it's pretty quick for the most part. However some glaring problems really hurt. The maps are good but not exceptional and the balance is far too easy since your life is rarely threatened. The story/instructions are short but accurate and good enough to build a story. Overall a decent first attempt with a good concept but it needs some work to make it better.
