This is about the Diadochoi's era, i.e. the period after the death of Alexander the great, when his former general struggle for the control of his empire (or part of it). You are Ptolemy Soter, satrap of egypt and fight to be reckognize as a king. Your best weapons are not the pikes of your soldiers, but culture and architecture. Multiplayer also : Yes
This is an attempt to recreate the world of the feuding successors of Alexander. Having tried to put together a workable map of the Eastern Mediterranean during this period, I applaud the ambition of Mssr. Boraud. The map is very nice and looks especially handsome in the mini-map. The bit map looks rather familiar, possibly inspired by another one?
Some of the instructions are a little misleading. The designer tells us to defend our northeast frontier from Antigonos because he's mad at us. Actually, I played through several times and was never attacked by any of the other successors. Here's why: playing as Ptolemy, with the goal, not of conquest, but of building a Library of Alexandria and a Lighthouse at Pharos, and knowing that Ptolemy historically went through long periods when he just wanted to be left alone, I reset my Diplomacy to Allies with everybody. Sure enough, they left me alone while I gathered resources, researched some techs, and accomplished my goal in less than 30 minutes.
You would think Antigonos would be the big aggressor here, but every time I played through, Seleukos was wiped out, Cassandros was almost wiped out, Antigonos was relatively stable at a small size, and Lysymachos was totally dominant over the map.
One other detail, the instructions say this covers the period 314-380 BC, obviously this won't work. I imagine the author means 314-280 BC.
I would recommend this as a download just to admire the way the scen looks in the mini-map.
