Here it is! The last of the great battles in the war between Greece and Persia! And this time two designers, working together, collaborated to bring this sixth (but not final!) installment in the Persian Wars series to you. It may be an AoE Heaven first, but since I was swamped with outside work I approached Jerry Caldwell and he was gracious enough to agree to co-design number six with me. In fact, most of the historical accuracy in the maps, in the characters, and in the actual play of the battles is due to Jerry's terrific research and imaginative approach to these epic encounters. We both hope you enjoy them! What's next? Although the great wars between Persia and Greece are done, the battles continue in Asia Minor under the leadership of Miltiades' son, Cimon. And the lives of the other characters -- Themistocles, Pausanias, Aristides, and Leotychidas among them -- take fascinating and dramatic turns. I fully expect at least one more installment to complete their stories and to recount the full impact of this amazing historical epoch on the great but doomed Greek city-states. Til then, don't hesitate to send us your comments! - Gordon Farrell
This is a fabulous campaign by one of the most famous designers, Gordon Farrell and one of his buddies, Jerry Caldwell. If you enjoyed previous campaigns by Gordon, you will enjoy this one as well. It features fixed troop scenarios with Gaia help to be found and you are always up against stiff resistance. There is NO building up in this campaign so be forewarned, but if you enjoy fixed troop strategic scenarios, this is one of the very best. Yes, it gets somewhat hard in spots but if it wasn't challenging, it wouldn't be fun. Of course, the stories and instructions are superb and unequalled in AoE. There are multiple victory conditions for each scenario and it is very creative. Balance is a tad on the hard side but the scenarios are winable. Great campaign by a pair of great designers. Keep up the good work Gordon and Jerry!
