Lama of Hellgate

Author File Description
Gary Thomas
File Details
Difficulty: Moderate
When the evil shaman died, in the Valley of Heaven scenario, his last act was to cast a blight on the land, reducing Alaia and its new allies, now called the Alaia Confederation, to the stone age. At the same time, the High Lama of Hellgate died. This Lama headed the great monastery perched in the Hellgate Pass, above the new lands around the Valley of Heaven. The influence of the High Lama was the only thing that had kept the wild tribes of the mountains in check, and now the Marauders, the largest of those tribes, are invading the lowlands in force. The new High Lama, chosen years ago as a young boy, is a prisoner of the Fathers of Elam, an advanced and powerful theocracy on the far side of the mountains. Order will not be restored until the new High Lama is brought to the monastery, and the Marauders power is broken. Multiplayer also : No

Lama of Hellgate is a really nice build and destroy style scenario. Your real goal is to defeat one town center and bring a priest in front of a temple but you must go through a large, well-defended city to succeed. You start with 2 town centers which is nice and one is attacked fairly often by bowmen. You should be able to handle these without too many problems but they are consistantly annoying. The real nice part is that your gold is hidden away on the map so you must go find it. Once you do find it, the supply is somewhat limited so you cannot spend it unwisely. Fortunately, you play the Assyrians so if need be, you can always build a million chariot archers since wood and food are plentiful. After you deal with the bowmen, you are safe from attack. The other computer players stay put. Also, when you attack and kill many of the computer's troops, he will not rebuild them (although he does heal with priests) so it's only a matter of time until you eventually achieve victory. It gets a little tedious at this point but it wasn't bad overall. The map was fabulous with lots of cliffs and paths and nice touches. It was very creative and pretty well balanced. The instructions were excellent - I especially enjoyed the creative bitmap that was used. Excellent job!
