Alexander The Great #1 - The Young Prince

Number of Scenarios: 3
Difficulty: Mod-Hard
This is my first attempt at making a campaign in what I hope will be a long series based on Alexander the Great. The reason I decided to do this, is because although there are a lot of Alexander the Great campaigns out there, not many are historically accurate to any great e extent. So in my campaigns I hope to have scenarios that are historically accurate and fun, and also perhaps to teach a little history about Alexander. This campaign deals with Alexander's military experiences prior to his becoming king, and the ascension to the throne. Future campaigns will continue Alexander's story. This first campaign should go by pretty quickly, but I hope it will be fun. Please email me with comments.

This was an extremely creative and enjoyable campaign with a wonderful story and excellent instructions. Unfortunately, the gameplay was only average. The first scenario requires you to destroy all enemy military units and watch towers. This was nicely balanced and quite playable since you have to be somewhat careful with the limited forces you are given to complete the task. The enemy has enough variety of forces that you need to back up each unit or you will lose it. To be complete effective as a scenario however, the enemy needed to be about twice as stong. The watch towers don't provide enough of a challege to clean up. I was careless and lost my catapults but since my horse archers out-ranged the watch towers, I could still win with no problems. The second scenario is quite creative and I liked it very much but again, it was too easy. You are given an ally and your mission is to destroy the leaders of two armies and completely destroy a third army. The leaders are nicely disguised (centurions when everyone else is phalanx) which is more realistic than having the leader be a different unit altogether. The third army was smallish and made up of only legions which your heavy cavalry could dispense with quite easily. This one was actually difficult if you charged right in but if you ran away first and let your ally take the majority of the damage, you can come in later and clean up the remaining unit making for an easy win. The third scenario was another very creative one - your brother (I think) is getting assisinated and you need to kill the assassin and rescue two other people and bring them to safety. I loved how the assassination was staged - very nicely done. The rest, again, was far too easy. Just a matter of wandering the map to find your two friends and that's it. There are enemies out there but you can pretty much ignore them since you've got hero Alexander and he's a pretty tough dude 8^). Overall, this one was very creative and well designed but it was far too easy. Make it quite a bit more challanging, spruce up the maps a little and you've got a winner here!
