The Summit is a one-of-a-kind scenairo... Your not going to find too many other scenairos like this one throughout the granary. Starting in ancient Phoenicia, you control two cities: Tyre and a colony, Carthage. Your objective appears to be simple; get two priests to a temple in the northern corner in the map. Not nearly as easy as it appears, since the Author included unique AIs/PERs for each player, making them up and about; your priests are killed with ease. Because of this, you have to devise a strategy. And so many options you have! Should you sneak up through northern Italy, or blast your way through Greece until the coast is clear? Should you try and send both priests through the same path or go through different ways? Should you build up at Tyre or focus on one of the "Lost" cities found throughout the map? Seriously, this scenairo has everything. Lots of goodies hide in here... Gaia mercernaries, lost cities, and the AI's building of a wonder. There was one large issue here... The tight forest pathes make traversing across the terrain an enormous task and is quite an irritant. It's goal may have alot of different options but in the end this could have more depth. Overall, this scenairo might not have the new tricks and map design, but it is most certainly a gem. Extra points for originality.
Balance: 4.5
As explained above, you have plenty of playable options to achieve your simple goal. Doing so takes alot of time and patience--and skill. All passes are blocked first with a double wall to prevent an early win. Along with this, your priests are in two different cities at the start of the game. Micromanaging these two areas is fairly difficult thanks to constant ship attack. You must also know what technologies to research at the start of the game to ensure that you won't be deavstated by enemy triemes. To make things more difficult, Egypt will start building a Wonder 15-20 minutes into the game, and you must destroy it to avoid the countdown. Overall this wasn't really too hard, but made you think and kept you plenty busy.
Creativity: 4.1
The gameplay itself provided alot of unique obstacles and options to keep it interesting, like the wonder building and lost cities. The AIs made the scenairo more interesting aswell. Victory conditions could have had more depth to them, and probably should have, but the priest trek is difficult enough as it is and provides just enough. While the map wasn't very detailed, it depicted most of the mediterranean; perhaps not too well but quite suitable for the scenairo. It looked good and bad in some places; the cities being the high point. The story is excellent and good for a read aswell.
Map Design: 3.7
Alot of the map is quite typical and frankly is quite dull in some spots; the cities are very neat and provide some growth room. Elevation is used here and there, with cliffs in several spots. Overall a cut above average but nothing too great compared to modern designing. Excellent for such an old scenairo. It was more about gameplay with the map those days, and frankly, just for the sake of nostalagia, I'll give it a boost. Sorry if your offended. (1997 handicap)
Story/Instructions: 5
The story is up for you to read, with the good hints too. There are a few grammar and spelling mistakes here and there, but it is quite an excellent read and certainly worth your time-there IS some originality in here. The hints are quite helpful and the victory conditions are clearly pronounced for you. The bitmap is one of the best I've ever seen. I'm afraid I have no choice but to give this a 5.
Additional Comments:A wonderful old gem and perhaps the best of 1997. A MUST download, I'd highly suggest giving this one a go!

Style: Build and Destroy + Victory Conditions
Map: Mediterranean (real world)
Playability: 4
Actually quite fun. As well as being challenging, it was also very interesting. You have to get 2 priests across the map into a temple. Both priests start in different positions, and you have enemies at land and sea! It was a shame that some enemies dwindled away, but others kept going throughout.
Balance: 4
Very challenging and quite difficult to get done on the first attempt. You have to move fast and/or wipe out a few neighbours before you can pull off a win. A few players dwindle away early.
Creativity: 5
The objectives, story, map, pathways etc are all very creative. Everything comes together perfect.
Map Design: 4
Excellent detail in most places. Some pathways were hard to spot, and a bit tedious to get units through. Maybe a larger map would allow for better areas (such as Italy, which was very basic).
Story/Instructions: 4
Excellent bitmap and instructions. Minor spelling/grammar issues and missing history section.
Additional Comments:
This is a must have scenario. It is very unique, excellent bitmap and story, with only very minor problems. DOWNLOAD NOW![Edited on 11/17/09 @ 11:40 AM]
