Mezoamerica

Author File Description

Difficulty: Mod
This scenario (my first) does significant damage to the early history of the Americas. The map is a rough representation of the western hemisphere, from southern North America through about half of South America, with some extras thrown in along the way. You start with two separated groups. Your objective is to find Atlantis, get your high priest there, and build a Wonder there. However, mineral resources are hard to come by in your starting areas. Also, there are four other civilizations who really would like to help you join your ancestors. You have an initial advantage, being in the Tool Age while your opponents are in the Stone Age. Of course, that won't last. There is no cavalry in this scenario. I believe that horses were unknown in the Americas of this time period (my one concession to history). Also, there are no catapults or hoplites. But there is plenty to do, some hidden goodies, and more than one winning strategy. Enjoy, and send suggestions for improvement if you wish. Multiplayer also : No

Mezoamerica is a rare scenario that seems to get it all right. The fictional ( or is it? ) story of Atlantis in the new world is well done. The introduction map is fairly simple, but quite effective. Lots of nice little touches such as the ancient looking font used add to it's appeal. The game itself is played on an accurate map of the new world from South America up to the southern United States. The Amazon and Mississippi rivers included. Play balance is outstanding, challenging, but not so hard as to require constant saves. It was so Good that after I finished I wanted to play it again. If I had to find something to fault in this scenario, it would be the lack of different terrains in the game. It might have benefited from the inclusion of a few desert areas. The map is pretty much all green. It's just a little thing. In short Mezoamerica is an AOE Hall of Fame quality scenario and I can very highly recommend it to anyone.
