If you want difficult gameplay, this one is for you! Holy cow is this one difficult. You start with a single heavy cavalry unit and you must search the map to find gaia help for your cause. The problem is that there are extremely aggressive heavy cavalry and composite bowmen enemies roaming the map. As soon as one of them sees you, pack your bags cause it's all over. Your goals are actually to defeat 10 red long swordsmen but I never made it past the first wave of enemies, never mind the second wave. The red dudes are the third wave. The idea is to use units on either side of the heavy cavalry units to lure them away from the middle. Good luck... I'm sure this one is winable but I didn't want to take the next week of my life to find out. Ok, thru much patience... I was able to lure most of the yellow troops away from the main battle and managed to collect 3 entire forces to fight the red troops. I had to cheat to do it mind you (reveal map and no fog) but you certainly don't have a chance otherwise. I stormed in with all my troops, gave red a licking and ran my cav around onto the beach where he's supposed to end up and... nothin... only killed 5 red dudes. Needed 10. Aaarrgghh... so maybe it isn't winable... who knows. All I know is it's damn hard. On the bright side, it is beautifully constructed and the instructions are great and it's really creative and well done all the way around. Just way too hard for my taste. Great job anyway!

One of the best, toughest, and realistic scenarios I have played. The design, historical backdrop, and story really add to the appeal of this famous battle emulation. It requires good scouting and coordination of separate battle groups. Most scenarios get easy after playing them a couple of times; not this one. On Easy I was sniped, on Hard I was ambushed, on Moderate it was even tougher. Try it and see.

NOTE: As Gordon says in the instructions, this is excerpted from his campaign Persian Wars 2, and as such, is a campaign file with a .cpn extension. Since I found it here in Single Player Scenarios, I thought it was a scenario and put it in my Scenario folder, which didn't work. Be sure and put it in your Campaign folder.
