5 way of winning: 1. Capture the war chest on the middle island and return it to your home base 2. Build a Wonder and hold it for 2000 years 3. Conquest 4. Capture all the ruins 5. Capture all the artifacts Capturing the war chest might sound easy, but it isn't. In typical fashion backstabbing and vengence rules the days!
Style: Build and Destroy
Map: Four partially walled/towered towns, surrounded by forest; middle island with river running from one corner (island contains war chest); all corners contain 1 ruin and 1 artifact
This is quite good, and has a number of different ways to win. However, some balancing issues make certain player positions better than others.
Player 2 and 3 have access to a river, which the other players do not. Player 2 has far more stone than other players. The placement of towers could be better (one player has them near each other, whilst the other 3 have them spread out). The location of food is spread out differently for each player.
Each of the four players begin in partially walled locations plus towers. The forests form natural defenses, and the game can be won in 5 different ways (conquest, wonder, ruins, artifacts or return the war chest from the middle island to your starting location).
Map Design: 3
The general use of roads is good, but there are random placement and missing pieces on several locations. The river placement unbalances the players, as does the general placement of resources. Stragglers and forests are placed well.
Basic instructions, with some humour for history, aftermath etc. The methods for winning are not as stated, which claims you can win by returning the warchest to your town center, when this should say your starting location (i.e. needs to consider multiple town centers, as well as how the bring object to area objective works).
Not essential, but worth downloading if you play 4 player games. With a bit more care this could be a good map.
