An Elegant Defense Map
Playability: 4.8
Do you like defense scenarios? Then I can give this a warm recommendation.
Those of you who have played a few such maps probably know of a few tricks, such as walling yourself in and massing ranged units. What is so lovely about this map is that these little exploits have been taken into account and can no longer be abused. The result is a very scaled down yet still interesting defense scenario.
The only detail which annoyed me slightly is the way that you have to chop your way out in order to defend your wonder. Seeing your opponent start smashing the wonder only to realize you have the units to deal with it but you forgot to chop a hole to get out is a little frustrating. Replacing a single tree with a deleteable wall section would make the early game a bit more relaxing.
Balance: 4.7
Both the economic resources and the military opposition are quite well balanced.
This map really shines around the time of the first Brown attack wave. The Red Player is still building axemen and just putting the first cavalry units out there and right when you think you have the situation under control they're joined by this mass of scouts. However after that the stress eases up somewhat and you're mostly waiting for the next big attack wave, only dealing with the occasional red cavalry.
I was surprised to learn the Red player only uses the "SHANG CLUBMEN" AI file provided by the game. While this is servicable, I believe that a custom AI file, even with just some minor changes, could have increased the challenge factor later in the game and created some more diverse gameplay. I would have loved to see the red player keep building axes or swordsmen units later in the game.
Creativity: 4.5
What makes this different from existing defense maps? Most of all the brilliant use of technology restrictions. The way this map restricts both you and your opponents to infantry and cavalry units doesn't only create unique gameplay, but also brings out the importance of the different bonuses these units have. Infantry -> Camels -> Cavalry -> Infantry, suddenly becomes an important weapons triangle too keep in mind.
Map Design: 4.3
No revolutionary design tricks, but the map is both well thought out and nicely rendered. The swamp in front of the player's wonder served a double purpose, as it is not only nice to look at, but also prevents the player from barricading themselves in with buildings. The player's base also has some great looking terrain.
A detail which really stood out to me and shows that thought went into the design of this map is how the trees behind the wonder allow your villagers to get through to repair it from behind.
The forests however aren't super interesting to look at. While they are mixed with different forest brushes, there is often no underbrush. Some hand placed trees and maybe some stone blended into the forest would help bring it to life.
Story/Instructions: 3.5
The scenario doesn't come with a story, but does everything really need an epic story? I don't think so. I mean, if you're not a great writer you shouldn't have to concern yourself with writing a mediocre story that most players will skip through either way. Sometimes all the player needs to know is "Defend your Wonder". The instructions are clear enough and the hints section covers what you need to know in order to succeed.
Additional Comments:
This is a tiny map, but you get a good chunk of gameplay out of it. Making a small map with thought put into every detail is always better than undertaking a large project and half-assing it. I agree that this is probably your best map so far, hence I decided to give the review I promised you here.
Our community in 2018 isn't exactly blessed with a great number of active scenario designers. I'm glad to have you around Luna Lynn! [Edited on 10/02/18 @ 02:33 PM]

Thank you very much Fruktfisk and sorry for the trees to chop next to the wonder but when they weren't here the red player was building granary so i didn't want the blue player strategy to be attacking the granary a bit and killing all the incoming villagers reparing, so you still can delete the wall and let the villagers come. Prohibiting red's granary and storage pit and pre-placing them would have solved it even though the red would probably attack some seconds earlier x). i worked a bit more on it seeing that the scenario was a bit easy, i know that's not easy for everybody but some players wouldn't find any difficulty in this scenario so i worked on a hardcore version, if i finish it i'll upload it in a different file (hardcore mode) so it can be adapted to all levels, the brown army is iron high so i lost 3 times in a row for now and my job is firstable to give the players a doable scenario i added some stuffs to help in the hardcore mode and there is more strategy to think about at least that's what i'm looking for, let me know if anyone finds glitch or AI instability while playing,i'm sorry i don't know how to make custom AI i'm creating scenarios with the simple tools of the game and there's much to imagine already and it takes some long time but if anyone wanna think about enhancing my work you're welcome.

Yeah, I'm sort of amazed that you make these kinds of scenarios and still haven't checked out tools such as the Composite Editors.
Editing AI files is relatively simple though, you can just open the ones in your "data2" folder in your AoE installation, using notepad. Or you could download our great tool here:

It's a bit to learn, sure, but if you want you can do some amazing stuff with it. |

I gave up the hardcore mode seeing that the scenario had some critical weaknesses on AI i'm working on the ai files and per files and will post the updated scenario soon, i have a problem though it looks like the copyright of the data folder which conteins de .per files doesnt allow me to put a .per files in there that truely show off in the scenario editor. |

Can you place .AI files in the folder but not .PER files? That sounds really strange, I don't know if anyone has run into it before. You might be able to change the writing permissions for the folder if you right click on it but honestly I have no idea about this problem. |

Oh my bad it's showing off now, the scenario is on its final version and i'm taking a break so i'm gonna post it so people don't have to play the old version anymore, sorry no video of the final version for now,the gameplay is pretty much fixed at 100%, the objectives have changed, you don't have to wait 7000 years anymore but to kill 20 legions and 20 egyptian heroes. |

Very difficult map even when peeking at the video for a hint on how to play. Tried that strategy but didnt do it properly I guess. Balanced on a razors edge for an expert player;too difficult for me. Too weak, too slow here ;-)[Edited on 12/06/18 @ 09:43 PM]

Mmm i don't have any scenario for begginers of my own yet ,i only make scenarios on the razor edge of my level in fact i guess x) with a bit of training on slow speed that's not that hard, the only role you could play as begginer in my scenarios would be my 1v1 multiplayer scenario "taking back the lands" as red, basically the main blue player still has pressure even if you're not too active and you can interact with him, so yea playing red is very chilling and easy.. but you need to find a good mate who knows how to play blue.[Edited on 06/03/22 @ 01:44 AM]
