Los Montanas Romanas

Author File Description

File Details
Difficulty: Hard
The Palmyran named Joshua (by the Romans) was a rebel in an unremembered high mountainous region.

He and the Palmyrans were a clean, industrious, although "uncivilised" people. They never surrendered to Rome or their culture, and they were a culture unto themselves. They built great pyres, bridges, but they lived in small, isolated communities.

That made it easy for Rome to overwhelm them, and then all of Rome's blashphemy, corruptuion, sin, and terror swarmed over the land.

A village near Josh's was raided and almost decimated. And josh was afraid his people would be next.

Thus was the time to start an uprising against the monstrous Roman fortress in his lands.

Will he be able to take down the Romans, despite the fact that he has almost no one to help him?

Find out when you play Las Montanas Romanas (The Roman Mountains)!

I made this back when we had newly discovered things like specific villagers, dead farms, dead people, another set of ruins, tool and bronze age buildings, and all that good stuff. All of those things are in there, as well as a few interesting land tricks.

Dean McCullough I guess I'll go for giving this a review sometime soon. I guess.
Map Design4.5
Since Dean doesn't seem to give his promised review, I will do instead.

Playability: 5
Los Montanas Romanas is a fictional scenario about how Palmyra rebels against the Roman Empire. You start off with only one cavalry and a big map full of surprises and dangers. You can do your job in less than 2 hours - if you know where to go. I had a really good time playing this. There are no bugs at all.

Balance: 5
I lost four times in less than 15 minutes until I found out, where to go and what to do. but even if you reach some relatively save area, your enemy will still knock on your door and keep you buisy for quite some time. Be sure to get backup before exploring major parts of the map. I love this! It's challenging, but fair.

Creativity: 3.5
Your allies are rather useless, but this is what they are supposed to be, I guess. It also adds to the atmosphere. The whole setting isn't very creative, though. Still, there is a nice stylemix of exploration and build up, defending and attacking. And there is need to hurry - otherwise your enemy will overrun you quickly.

Map Design: 4.5
The map, although without usage of the enhanced editor, is very pretty with lots of eye candy, (broken) bridges, trees on cliffs, stones and cactee. Only the eastern part of the map is huge terrain brush, but you will probably not get there anyways. The "citadel" is also nice, yet a bit more basic stuff. Well done!

Story/Instructions: 3.5
You know what to do and you also get some little story. I consider this rather pointless, but it's better than having none. I would have loved if the author made a real campaign using maybe three scenarios like this one.
