You thought that i would be satisfied with just a thread about "titles"? No way!! This is a funny fictional (as much as possible)role playing scenario whit some puzzles. It also has a language.dll file and i would recommend you to use it. Otherwise part of the gameplay will be lost. For more information read the "titles" thread, my idea and the answer i got in the suggestions thread. Enjoy!!!
Background: Okay this is a bit funny. If you actually care enought to know what I've been up to on this site, you may know that in 2008 I released my first campaign "The Gooties Stories". If you take a look at the fourth scenario of that campaign, and then take a look at this one, you may notice some similarities. Yeah, that's right, I noticed that this guy had a good idea but it went unnoticed and instead of giving his scenario a review I straight up stole it! xD Luckily enough time has passed that I no longer have to feel embarassed about that and we can all have a good laugh about it, right? (Please tell me I'm forgiven.)
Playability: 4.7
The gameplay here is really original and makes for a fun experience. At times it can be quite frustrating to be dependent entirely on one unit which may die or in this case even end up lost in the fog if you're careless. In general there's a nice flow to the scenario, even the parts where you're dependent on AI units's Line of Sight to get where you need to go, which isn't alway that easy to achieve.
Balance: 4.3
With the map being more about puzzle solving and unit micro, there isn't that much to say about balance. I guess that for the most part the fights that you have to pick are pretty well balanced stat wise in the aspect that you have to take careful care of your mercenary but you never feel like you lose unfairly to a few AI units taking a cheap shot. The thinking you have to do to get around the map never gets too intense, and I think there are some more complex puzzles which might have gone unfulfilled.
Creativity: 5
The real strong point of this scenario is its core idea, and everything else really just branches out from that. The player controls only a mercenary unit which has no Line of Sight, and the whole map is just a series of puzzles and finding ways to cope with that fact. I wouldn't want to go too deep into the details as it spoils a chunk of the experience, but yeah, it really carries itself on a strong concept.
Map Design: 3.8
The map has its nice looking spots, where you can tell effort has been put into it, but there's also a lot of blank grass to be seen. When you consider the concept mentioned above and you realize the designer hadn't even needed to paint the whole map if he had kept track of the sightlines, it's actually sad that more wasn't done. Fallen91 definitely had the skills to make a great looking map, but not the patience. Still it's a least quite pleasing to look at some of the time.
Story/Instructions: 3.7
This is probably the hardest part of the scenario to rate. The story and instructions aren't exactly well written, but I get the distinct feeling that the author does this on purpose. Much like the tone of his comments in this thread there's a certain "trolly" tone to the writing of the campaign. Of course when you have Winzett's cars placed on the map there's only so much you can do in terms of serious writing. It might sting a little for people who attempted to write a serious story which didn't reach all the way there, but at the end of the day I enjoyed this. It's a dumb kind of humor, but when I lost the scenario only to earn the title of "LOSSER" I laughed out loud. Or maybe this is actually how he wrote. I looked through the guy's forum history trying to locate that thread about "titles" he keeps going on about (I can't find it) and he literally writes like this all the time. Still, it's an enjoyable read even if it isn't well written by an objective standard.
Final Comments: If Fallen91 is against all expectation around to read this after more than 12 years I apologize for stealing your scenario dude.
