Playability: 1.2
It was just conquest, first scenario you attack the Visigoths and slaughter them all, the second one you slaughter them again, the third one told me that the Romans will try and build a wonder, I attacked them with the Flying Dutchman (YES THERE IS A FLYING BOAT ON THIS "HISTORICAL" CAMPAIGN...), they didn't even build a wonder.
Balance: 2
Fairly balanced, wasn't one of those Scenarios that give you 10 BigDaddys and tell you to nuke everything, but its always in your favour.
Creativity: 1.1
Theres no history, I don't know nothing about the Vandals, all I knew was they were war like people, not very creative.
Map Design: 2
The first map is actually pretty decent, although it lacked Mixed Forest, Bridges, or any kind of accurate terrain.
Story/Instructions: 1.1
One line telling you that you should attack the Romans or Visigoths, I need to be enlightened about the Vandals, who were they? Where they succesful in war?! What was their god?! The history could have told us that.
Additional Comments:
Download? Nah, this is actually a 3 Scenario campaign, I opened it with the Campaign Manager and it was only 3 Scneraios, This is horrible work, due to the lack of work or terrain rendering.
I say chr1s was 10 times better than this guy. |

Beefy, your review is resonable, but you must encourage the player to continue designing, not to leave AoEH, even the cpns are awful.[Edited on 07/12/07 @ 10:54 AM]

(please read additional comments for main feedback)
Playability: 4
(Insert Playability analysis here)
I gave this a playability of 4 because it has no serious playing complexities nor difficulties.
Balance: 2
(Insert Balance analysis here)
This is a lower score because the game lacks any good comprehension between levels and no real balance.
Creativity: 1.3
(Insert Creativity analysis here)
There was some creativity, but those usually amounted to some humorous designs.
Map Design: 2.5
(Insert Map Design analysis here)
I liked the first map, the rest had some interesting things going on. However, the resources were too excessive and often lacked any realism.
Story/Instructions: 1
(Insert Story/Instructions analysis here)
Hardly any historical accuracy or interest.
Additional Comments:
The key to making a good campaign.
First and foremost, if you are going to do history make sure you study it completely and try to reflect it accordingly. This requires study and geographical accuracy.
However, if you are not that into history and just want to make a fun, interesting, or adventurous campaign that is great too. I love fantasy campaigns that have a humorous or adventurous subject.
The only way history can be mixed well with fantasy (that is with low historical accuracy) is if you decide to make a pseudo historical campaign. That is, some made up person living within a real or semi-accurate historical background. It should not be a big name, a true king or leader, etc. etc. It could also be a 'what if' historical campaign. You know, like 'what if' Alexander the great had not died so young and continued his conquests.
Oh, and I loved the unique map design for the first campaign. I also found it sorta entertaining that wherever I went the next corner might have a sudden lion king leap out and slaughter me. Also, play around with victory conditions and try to expand the conditions for winning. For example, your second campaign has an error: All you need to do is find a ruin and wait '2000 years' to win... and the opponent seems passive so they didn't try to get it back.
Anyways, this was juts some advice: I look forward to your next campaign - hopefully it is some funny story or adventure story. |
