Assassins of Greece
Improvement campaign.
This is my first campaign I'v ever created, so I decided to make an improvment campaign.
What is it?
The improvment campaign is a campaign that shows the player how much the author has improved from scenario one to six.
Campaign Description:
Greece, a powerful nation that has been conquering the world for the last 100 years. But a new threat has arived... The Rise of Rome. Rome an even more powerful nation has taken over the lands of Greece, and nothing stopping it. No army can match the forces of Rome, except for three Assassins.
PS: When you review the campaign, can you have an improvment section as part of the review? Rate it out of 5.
Oh and sorry about the size. :]
Contains: 1 campaign, 3 language files, and 1 txt file.
Remember to play scenario three on hardest! Or they wont attack you.
UPDATE: - Fixed Buildings Glitch
- Patched up some errors. |

The scores are automatically determined by 5 sections more or less stapled into the reviewing process. What you select for those 5 categories deteremines the overall score--you can't "add" a category, it's quite simply not possible.
And frankly, I don't see what good an "improvement" section would do. Your idea is dandy, but to be honest I'd have to say that you might as well just go ahead and renew your rather bad scenarios if you really do want a good score.[Edited on 05/22/07 @ 06:30 PM]

Playability: 4
Very, very enjoyable campaign. You have to use counter units when your forces are small and when you've got a large army, you should choose the right ones. For example, in the second scenario there was a small fortress with axers, compies and towers. At first glance it seemed easy to be destroyed but after attacking with Impies and Cavalry it seemed almost impossible to raze it. In some cases you have to assasinate your enemy in sniper style, in other cases you should manage great battles. The bad point was some of the VCs. After enjoyable battles you should bring the assasins in the other corner of the map. That is only an example, there were a few in every mission. Try to remove these VCs.
Balance: 3.5
What to say here. In some cases it was balanced, in other it wasn't. IE in the first mission you have a whole bunch of units (Clubbers and bowmen) but they are not enough to defeat only a few of the post-iron age units like cataphracts and centurions. Others where nicely balanced, just like in the third mission, in which you are given just enough force to destroy the enemy.
Creativity: 3
Well, the story was very original and there are a few dynamics, nicely presented. But all of the VCs aren't very creative. I reccomend you to enhance the VCs a little.
Map Design: 3
I think the author just played around with the enhanced editor. There were a few well-crafted cities and swamps, but most of the map was full of dull forest and plain roads. Read the articles and try to enhance the map.
Story/Instructions: 2.5
The story was interesting and the mission briefing was nice. And that's it. There was a bitmap only in the second scenario, filled with boxes. It told me nothing about the mission. The instructions were full of mistakes, the story wasn't explained well and the hints were not helpful. Try to fix the mistakes, add a bitmaps and enhance the story.
Additional Comments:
Enjoyable campaign. If you consentrate on the missions, you will like them. Download - Yes, a simple campaign, which reminds me the old days with AoE. |

(2.5 is considered average relative to original aoe campaigns)
Playability: 4.2
Very very fun to play. I really loved the challenge of some of the scenarios. The last scenario takes forever!!! It was still fun, until towards the end when I was just demolishing buildings getting the 1000 razings. wow, what an intense map that third one was. The reason you didn't get a perfect score here is due to the 'huge' army experience which I tend to dislike. Especially the chaos going on in the third scenario. It tends to, in my view, ruin the game experience and the control one has over victory. Simply put, original AoE usually doesn't go well with huge military. However, your use of huge military actually wasn't that bad at all. I was actually pleasantly surprised about how much of a challenge yet still possible even with a huge military, though after a decent amount of trys esp. on the third campaign. For most AoE scenarios I have played in general: those that have huge military end up being easily won using only a small group of the 'huge' military. This worked somewhat on parts of your campaign, but you did an expert job at spliting up the forces according to the tasks; and wow, a very good job on the last scenario on doing that... That had to take absolutely forever to make, test repeatively, and toget it just right.
Balance: 5
Which takes us to balance. This campaign is a challenge, no doubt about it. The most difficult I have played thus far here. Yet it was still possible. Thus, I award you the perfect balance score - in my view, the greatest challenge yet still over-comed deserves the greatest score in balance. I believe that balance in a single player game is how challenging yet possible the campaign is. Now, a multi player game is different, of course. Great great job. You must have spent so much time perfecting the balance on so many of these scenarios, in particular the last one.
Creativity: 3.8
The creativity lacked slightly, but was still great. The reason this is 3.8, still WAY above average, is because the maps were almost 'maze like' and at the same time the story attempted to do a genuine realistic story, even if not really historical. I consider this a creativity flaw not a map flaw. Your maps themselves were designed well, however you did not use enough creativity to make the map realistic at the same time as balanced and challenging. The walls often created the passage, The forest seemed to bend, also, in a maze like fashion rather then having a relaistic look.
To get this realistic look, yet at the same time be balanced and with limited movement, check out 'little big nordic adventure' in the AoE single player campaigns (not in the RoR signle player campaigns).
Map Design: 4.3
Ironically, after just losing some rating due to lack of realistic creativity in the map, you get a high map score due to good designs all over the place, and extremely intense mapping. Great maps, even if not realisticly organized. Your terrain was great, and your bridges decent. One scenario, i forget which one, had a bridge with illogical water flow, but it still looked cool even if ungeographic (That last scenario took me so long I forgot which one that irregulare water flow bridge was in - if you would like I could try to find it again). Wow... you must have put so much effort into these, especially the last scenario.
Story/Instructions: 2.6
The instructions were not clear enough, and often were not directly stated. The story didn't feel real, and also seemed to imply historical event even though lacking historical info or truth. The story should have been better developed, and you should have stayed away from the historical plots, instead developing it into a full-scale fantasy. I would LOVE to see a campaign designed by you with less military units and a indepth fantasy story, yet still with good map design and still a challenge. That, I would imagine, would be approaching the 5 rating.
Additional Comments:
the last scenario took me over 7 hours of game play. Good thing football was on today so I could switch back in forth without going nutz trying to get through it![Edited on 12/10/07 @ 08:10 AM]

PS
You called this Mod-Hard!
not a chance.
This one is Hard all the way.
Of course, if you play it on easy or something it might be easy or mod. difficulty - I have no idea, I never tried it on an easy difficulty. |
