I stumbled across this scenario whilst looking at an archive in a backup CD. This is a VERY old scenario of mine, so don't expect much of it, I'd personally rate it a 1.5 at maximum.
The story is that you flee from a flaming Itjtawy, and head for the fortress of Thinis, strengthened by civil wars, from where you might be able to halt the invading Hyksos and establish a strong foothold in your own empire.
Ah, one of the earliest scenarios of Balazs the Genius.
For an old scenario it's not so bad actually. You start with 6 villagers, and have to find an allied town. Once you are behind the save walls you can build up and strike back against the enemy. Not the most exciting style of scenario, but it was decent. Soon the first enemies showed up. The first slinger attacks were easy to defend, but as the yellows began to attack my towers with war galleys it got a bit more difficult. Due to the huge amounts of gold in my base I soon overwhelmed them though. The resource placement was not so strategically, huge stone and gold mines were scattered around the map aswell as lots of berries and wildlife. A decent scenario, nothing great but good for an old scenario.
Balance: 4
The two enemies kept me on my toes, and approached me with war galleys and cavalry when I was still in the tool age. It was not too hard, but fun.
Creativity: 3.2
The scenario was not highly creative, but the story was not so bad actually, and overall it was decent. The map could've been better.
Map Design: 3
Map Design was ok. There was hardly any eyecandy, but it didn't look random mapish to me, and I found it just.. decent (yes, I used that stupid word again).
Story/Instructions: 4
The story was not the best I've ever read, but it was understandable, made sense and I knew what to do. The hints could've been improved though, and bitmap is lacking.
Additional Comments:
I hate to say it again, but the scenario is pretty much just decent. :P
It's nothing highly creative, nor has it good map design or a great story, but I enjoyed playing and for an old scenario it was not bad actually.
Download Reccommendation:
If you want to see an old school scenario by Mr. Balazs (who's today proud member of Team B, by the way) then yes.
