This is a pretty good scenario, not failing in any major area, but it has some annoying bugs, and I wasn’t able to even complete much of the mission. I wouldn’t recommend you download this one, unless its bugs are fixed, but I don’t really now if the author is still around anyway.
Playability: 1
The scenario starts off as you alone, then you can build up after a while. You have a very limited army though, with no cavalry and no government centre upgrades, and any non-newbie knows you won’t get far with Carthy without their helepolis and upgrades. Besieging the enemy isn’t really an option, until you have completed the sub-objectives and found the units to do so. Cartaginian elephants will prove a good defense against the helepolis though, but you’ll need to keep healing them since you don’t really have anything in the way of gold. Anyway, you must be wondering why I gave it a 1. Well, you can’t get into the grey village where the catapult is, and it’s really the only unit you can use to take out the towers. I looked at the map, and figured out how the scenario was supposed to go, but trust me, if you can’t outrange the towers you are going to be playing for a long long time.
Balance: 2
Again, since it is near impossible it can’t get much of a score. The reason you can’t get into the grey town is that the villagers always build a house or two across your path, and if you attack them, you’ll probably lose your catapult I imagine. There’s several ways to fix this when making a scenario. You could make the path wider, you could take away their villagers (and town centre/food), and you can give them a per file which doesn’t allow them to auto build houses. I would go with the last one, but any will do. The mission is still very difficult if you can get all the Gaia units, I think the technology and unit restrictions is a bit much, or give the enemy a smaller base.
Without the houses problem both scores would be at least 3
Creativity: 4
The map wasn’t that creative in terms of eye candy, but it had moderately good city design (without the bugs), and it was a good layout, and all original. Story was creative, and so were objectives.
Map Design: 3.5
Not a lot of skill in map designing, e.g. all the forests were one terrain and no Gaia trees, but it was a good map all the same, with a few layout problems in terms of paths.
Story: 4
There was a good story, slightly confusing objectives, mainly because of the English, and no bitmap.
Overall: 2.9
Would have been a very good scenario compared to the others, but I fear that the author never bothered to play it himself, so it’s really little surprise there are problems
If the author is still around, I’ll be happy to help fix it and post a new review once fixed. My hotmail addy is in my profile. |

At first, I swear that I'm the original author of this map, only under a new name (has been ages that I was here xD) and that I would be happy with some work.
At second, this map was made three years ago, with me having not much mapping skills. Not that I have improved so that I would easily get a 5/5 score, but way enough to do more on this. I'm currently busy creating a map, the first map is finished, I only have to create a storyline.
Finally, I know the level sucks hard in terms of playability. The bug with the catapult is only fixable with the per file, as you said. See, how bigger you make that gap, how more they'll build into it, so that won't help.]
The reason I disallowed the govcenter is because of the writing upgrade. I didn't want to see the enemy, so I disabled the whole govcenter instead of only writing xD
Anyway, great you've took time in this review. It was very helpfull, and there is a posibility that I will re-use this map for my campaign :) |
