PLAYABILITY: Very playable, with only a few bugs. Nice ideas like the time limit restrict you and put a hurried sense on the scenario, which makes for great fun. A few tricky puzzles that are nicely executed. The Bandits, however, cause a few problems, such as "helping" me with attacking cities. Still, a very good job. 4 CREATIVITY: Great ideas are amassed in this campaign, such as the time limit for the game. This is a little used idea but in this scenario it is to splendid effect. Other nice things are the use of animals and the well-known but excellent "timed catapult" trick. Bravo, Hoplite! 5 BALANCE: A couple of minor annoyances here, but not really a problem. One of the scenario instructions state a great monument was guarded by two generals, but by the time I got to the monument, the generals had been killed by bandits, so I proceeded to look for another monument. Otherwise, balance is excellent with it being highly nesecarry to save your games. 4 MAP DESIGN: Maps were functional but beautiful, with scenic towns, lakes, rivers and forests. A couple of bland sections but none to effect the playablity of the map. 4 STORY / INSTRUCTIONS: Story was very good, with a useful and intriuging bitmap and excellent hints. A good story, but one of the objectives was a bit vauge. Very good work, especially with those fantastic hints! 4 OVERALL: A great little one-scenario campaign, and a reccomended download for all. I'm looking forward to more great work from Adamant Hoplite. 4.34 |

PLAYABILITY: It was pretty hard for me to find my way through, that is why I had to revise this review (Thanks to Lorenzo, otherwise the score would be very low). After a bunch of restarts, I finally found my way through the forest, and the real adventure started. With a timer ticking away, you needed to hurry up. After reaching a bridge and some enemies, I finally found the gaia villager and small army. At last, I could build up my own town :). After going to several upgrades and creating a huge army of mostly strong bowmen, I attacked the red city and started building my wonder. While doing that, I attacked the yellow base as well, capturing both the Ruins and warchest. Pretty hard, most of my men were already wounded so I needed to attack a 2nd time, then succeeded. After my wonder was build, I was victorious :). CREATIVITY: I had much fun with this one scn campaign. Maybe 2 small or optional objectives could have been added to make things more interesting. BALANCE: When first playing the scn, I got stuck several times not knowing where to go. After examining the map with the reveal map and no fog cheats on, I found my way trough. Saving often is really needed in the scn, as you might not know what to expect (like a enemy tower cloaked in a small forest). After getting your villager, things are different since you can build up an empire. MAP DESIGN: As usual, I use the Reveal map and No Fog cheats to see all the eye-candy in the map - no matter what if I get stuck. This cpn had some trick like the swamps and some cacti tricks. Pretty nicely done, but could get a little bit more attention. STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: The story itself was pretty good as I was getting involved with it, which I like. Bitmap could have been made somewhat better though. OVERALL: Good fun, a nice story and good gameplay. Enough to keep you busy for a while :). |

Oh dear. This one-scenario campaign should be held out in future as an example of why designers should before submitting their scenario - should test, test and test. Oh yeah, did I mention TEST? There is one major problem with this campaign - The Start. Almost as soon as I select on the "OK" button, I die. The Reason: I am surronded by Zenobia's towers and I meant to go into a nicely concealed path in the woods, But whenever I do this I get killed by one of those most evil things - Mirror Towers. I've tried this scenario about 40 times and I've haven't past the opening part. Am I missing something? PLAYABILITY: It's not fun dying an infinite number of times........ BALANCE:.. Nor is it very balanced....... CREATIVITY:...Or Creative, For that matter. MAP DESIGN: At last, Something Positive to say. The map was quite good with some good eye candy, But not enough. (I had to type "reveal map" and "no fog" to see it, though) STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Story and Instructions very well written. The Bitmap was good, too. Good Points: - The Map - The Bitmap - The story Bad Points: - The Opening of the scenario. |
