PLAYABILITY: As stated in balance, both scnearios are too hard and the objectives get monotonous after a while. Not too bad, but refining is needed on this part. 3 CREATIVITY: Nothing new here but that is by no means a bad thing - clean objectives which were still fun, mainly Build and Destroy. 3 BALANCE: I thought scenarios here were a little bit hard, each taking me a fair amount of time to complete, and I had to restart from save point numerous times. Still, not too bad, which gets a 3 MAP DESIGN: Map design was rather good here, with cliffs placed strategically, good placement of Gaia, as well as the standard swamps, dead tree tricks and water tricks which should be enough to satisfy anything. 5.0 STORY / INSTRUCTIONS: Good, clear instructions, a nice story, well made bitmaps, so enough to keep anyone happy. Great work! 5.0 OVERALL: A good first attempt, with refining needed but enough to satisfy a player. |

PLAYABILITY: Both scn's where pretty fun, but the objectives could have been more defined, so I really knew what to do. Speaking of objectives, there were plenty of them, which added up to the score. You had to be careful in the first scn right from the beginning, as some deadly Axemen where nearby. Walling in may be a good option when you're in the next age. After you have created a fairly large army, the tides are turned and things become somewhat easier. The 2nd scn is likewise, build up your town and things turn out easier. Destroying the government centre and finding the lost war chest and ruins was pretty easy. Pretty fun but somewhat short and easy. CREATIVITY: Enough objectives, but they were pretty easy. No special puzzles or traps, pity. More thoughts need to be given to this. Maybe a timer or a wonder countdown could do the trick, that would make things harder and more fun. BALANCE: Things could have been more harder, as you could build up your town right from the start, and creating an army to attack the enemy. Some minor cpu rushes could have been made. Both scenarios aren't too hard to beat, which was a bit of a dissapointment. MAP DESIGN: The map was nice and enjoyable to look at. Could have been a bit improved though, as some parts looked a bit dull. Plenty of swamps and dead tree tricks, enough to satisfy me. STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Instructions were okay, but really needed a good story. Things were a bit short, and the bitmap wasn't superb either. At least there was a bit map, otherwise I'd lower the score to a 2. Needs to be improved a lot, needs a good story and more defined objectives. OVERALL: An okay cpn, but needs a good story and some more unsuspected things. |

Rome - The Early years is an above average semi-fictious campaign about The Rise to power of the Roma Tribe. There are two scenarios - The first concerns the Roma Tribe conquering it's rival tribes on the river Tiber. The Second is about the Roma's global conquests. Playability: Both Scenario's are far too long. Scenario 1 took me 8 hours to complete (on the very fast timer). Scenario 2 took shorter. Both Scenarios were your average Build and Destroy. Balance: Quite difficult, it takes about 2 or 3 attempts to win both scenarios. But neither are they impossibly difficult. Creativity: While there's nothing very original about this campaign, the objectives were at least better than the average "Kill X". Such as "Achieve 5 Conversions" or "Gather 1000 Gold" Map Design: Beautiful eye candy and a Beautiful map for both scenarios. StoryInstructions: The Instructions were very clear, The Bitmaps were nicely done. There were very little spelling mistakes - so this section gets a 5. Good Points: - Brilliant Maps - Clear Instructions - Quite Difficult, But not impossible. Bad Points: - Scenario's too long - Unoriginal |
