As much time as I spent on the first Scenerio and the other ones, I didn't have enough time to finish the last two so i substitued them with smaller versions. I figure might as well just submit something. I worked to hard to not send anything at all so enjoy the first one and also enjoy the scenery.
I was disappointed. Jason has done better work than this. The Map Design was quite good, but there's not much else here. Playability: Poor. Only one way to win each scenario, and it's generally easy to figure out. The number of editor objects, especially the snow in the first scenario, makes play very jerky and irritating. Even with the lag, this whole campaign only took me about 40 minutes to play. Creativity: Average. Overall concept in first two scenarios of how to design special terrain effects fairly clever/original, and getting started in third requires a little thought; otherwise no real creativity or artistic/realism/gameplay effects attempted. Balance: Much, much too easy, except for the first scenario, which requires a bit of tactics/planning. Sadly, the playability is so low in that one (because of the lag from all the "snow") you lose the good effect. In the second scenario, you just have to mass your ranged units to handle an enemy counteratack; in the third, if you rush, you win. Map Design: Very good. Lot of hard work to create snowy mountain ranges, deserts, shallow river crossings, scattered foliage, interesting villages/towns. Every tile appears to have been filled, one at a time, with terrain objects from the editor. Some really beautiful effects. Story/Instructions: Below average. Main story, which is meant to include instructions/hints, is told in dialogue form. Hints/instructions vague or missing ("I have no clue" is one of the Hints). Victory/loss messages range from sparse to mildly offensive ("You Win" is the final victory message). Two bitmaps, one good, one poor. Historical Content: Average. No richness, no analysis - just the bare facts necessary to set the stage. Overall: Open it to see the terrain design, but gameplay fun only for beginners.
