I am a hardcore LotR purist, but some liberties have been taken to make a more 'playable' game. Most of the History is quoted directly from Tolkien, though most of the Scenario Instructions or Hints are mine. Attention was paid to making the maps accurate views of Middle-Earth, and so the campaign is better enjoyed with the use of the 'reveal map' command. By my count, the whole campaign took about 2 hours to play, but should take the average gamer a bit longer. ***I highly recommend finding a map and familiarizing yourself with Tolkien's Middle-Earth before playing, so you know the place-names(they will be used heavily in the campaign). All feedback welcome.
Here's the score for the last LOTR campaign submitted(I believe) on AOEH, with 21 really, really, really bad scenarios by farmboy.
Playability:1/5
It was absolutely boring, the basic scenario victory conditions in each scenario are almost copying the one before it. Which makes me just type "reveal map" and "no fog" to take a look at the map design to see if by chance this one'll be good and then type in "diediedie" in utter disappointment.
Creativity:1/5
I couldn't find any known designing tricks in this whole saga. No creativity in the scenario instructions either, it was just a summery of the book which this scenario took place.
Map design:2/5
About half of each scenario was grass. Also, as I said in "Creativity", no known map design tricks I found. Big blots of trees or lakes or deserts. I only gave it a two because the author didn't just do a Random Map or Seed Map.
Story Instructions:1/5
No intro bitmaps, no author's own writing in the story, I still could stand to see the beautiful writing in the LOTR Trilogy that J.R.R.TOLKIEN WROTE, not a boring sum-up with no descriptive words nor emotions by farmboy.
Balance:2/5
Wayyyyy too easy. For example, in one scnario you have two farmers trying to destroy the enemy fort, the bad thing is, the fort was completely surronded by its own walls, and the area of the walls is no bigger than five wonders together! There were no military buildings in the fort, and I simply called the farmers to chop up trees, build archers, and voila.(I had fun with this while I played it again, and I released the enemy farmers, they chopped wood, and it was a better battle than the one above)
Overall:1.4
This, was really bad. Download it only if you want to compare and contrast the difference between a really good, and a really bad campaign. And this, is a really bad one. I couldn't believe myself when I am typing this right now:this scenario could have been better with some Random Maps. Lots and lots and lots of other things you(the guy reading this who plans to download this campaign) use on playing this campaign can be used to do other fun things.
