This campaign is about Dacia's history (present Romania). "The bravest of the Tracians" how Herodotus called them, the Dacians made an incredible civilization at an early date. In these three scenarios I tried to cover up the most important parts of Romania's ancient (almost middle-aged) history. Please take it easy on me: this is my first campaign ever submitted. E-mail me and tell me my mistakes, so that I can correct them in a useful time. Coming up very soon: Part 2 of this campaign.
Playability-andThis campaign, while obviously made by a beginner, was mostly interesting, with good use of some basic, classic victory conditions, fun plot, and a generally solid experience. My biggest complaint, which I'll get to in more detail, is the general spottiness and inconsistency that comes from a gifted beginner-parts of the campaign are excellent, parts are imitations of what others have done, and parts are rather boring.Creativity-andKudos to the author for such an interesting campaign idea. Romania? Not very common. I'm not entirely sure how he (or she) set up the "give them money and they join your side" trick, but it was definitely uncommon, and made a wonderful addition to the campaign. Aside from that though, there wasn't much new-most map design tricks are borrowed from older campaigns (which is normal for first attempts-or second or third of fourth attempts), and the vc's are very common ones (the ones in the second one were rather good however). This section gets the best score.Map Design-andA few nicely done swamps in the second scenario and some extremely good looking mountains in the third, which I've now blatantly stolen and adapted for use in the desert, add to the overall look of these maps, but there are also large stretches of barren grass, and big blocks of trees, which detracts a great deal from the game.Balance-andPretty good-the second and third scenarios are about right, while the first on is too easy. Story/Plot-andA wonderful plot put into words fairly well, although the somewhat ludicrous idea of actually saying "x amount of gold" out loud definitely detracts. It's nice to see people put any amount of time into their instructions bitmaps, which are understandable and somewhat nice, although blotchy. There is room for improvement, but this is a good beginners effort. All in all, while this particular campaign might not win any awards, it definitely showcases the talent of the author, who deserves definite praise for a very good first showing. I look forward to seeing more work from him (or her) later on.
