This scenario contain three levels - Conan Slave, Conan Rider and Conan Avenger. Levels are short (30-45 min, if you play best), but hard, I think. On this scenario, there are many tricks. Do you know - that Heavy Catapult can destroy forest? - that Priest can heal through cliffs (only somewhere)? - that Units can be embark on transport ship through cliffs (only somewhere)? - that Discovery can be captured by ball of Stone Thrower? Next, for example, I use burning buildins or burning ship on cliff as decoration and there is a meaningful exploitation of Invisible Demons (see level Conan Rider). And many others tricks and fun. Try to play it! |

This campaign is a must for puzzle fans. If you are unfamiliar with puzzle you may find yourself in a bit of a pickle, but the hints should be sufficient to pull you through. All in all, it’s a great puzzle campaign with a strong showing overall. You start off on an island as a slave, but how can you escape? Enemy towers are everywhere and the Slaver is demanding tribute. Perhaps you can get to a raft, but first you must find a way to get past the red towers, and that will require sharp eyes.
Playability: 4.5
The range of puzzles in this campaign is very large, and you’ll be stuck on some for a while. I found them all very creative and therefore fun to play, since I often had to solve it myself rather than rely on previous experience.
Balance: 5
Although the campaign doesn’t have many non puzzle aspects, the difficulty is so good that it deserves a 5. It will challenge any AoEer and the hints allow rookies to play as well. This campaign will provide a great challenge for YOU, no matter who you are. Just make sure you use the old exe file in the last scenario, or you can’t beat the lion puzzle. Ask on the forums if you don’t understand how to do that.
Creativity: 5
There was creative map design, very creative puzzles, and the campaign itself is extremely unique. I can’t say I’ve ever played a full campaign that is all puzzle. I would probably run out of puzzles after the first scenario. Puzzles make use of all the little bugs and peculiarities of AoE.
Map Design: 4
Map design is of a good standard, working in well with the puzzles, often looking very good, and featuring some basic and intermediate map tricks, like a burning tower that would otherwise prove too big an obstacle for a single man. Map Design isn’t the strength of the campaign, but it’s not weak enough to let it down either.
Story: 2.5
The story is a little short, and English isn’t too good, but the author is from the Czech Republic, so go figure. It’s still easy to follow the instructions, and hints help out a weaker player (or confused veteran). The bitmaps were there too, nice shots of Conan on a horse etc.
Unlike Lord of the Rings, Conan campaigns are few and far between. If you have Rise of Rome, download Phill Phree’s Conan of Cimmeria campaign too, it is more about strategic battles than puzzle. Both campaigns are very good, which is a harsh contrast to the terrible campaigns we see based on other popular stories.
