Rise of the Lost Empire

Author File Description
Khaleb Khan
File Details
Number of Scenarios: 8
Difficulty: Mod-Hard
Review : ; This Campaign, will take you through three scenarios of the Egyptians ascension to the throne of world domination. From taking control of the Nile river, to the boundaries of modern-day Egypt, and the refusal to back down to constant Assyrian attack and demand for submittal. Then finally there is a special fourth scenario depicting the great biblical event of the parting of the Red Sea and the Israelites' dream of reaching the 'Promised Land'.

The author's description is that this campaign is about the Egyptians. Believe me, it is not. Instead, it tells the story of the Quetzovicians, a fictional civilization invented by the author. The first level was a lame build and destroy. You start on an island with a real bunch of resources, and have to destroy three enemies and build towers on certain places, to help "defend" your empire. Too bad, the enemy does not attack at all. Probably because he does not have the right AI and the scenario was not tested. The second scenario starts a bit better with a fixed force, but again was not tested at all. The objective is to find a safe mountain range where you can build up. As I found the entrance (the only one as the instructions told me), it was blocked by a bunch of stone mines. There was no way of going around them, so I started mining it. :-/ As I had starred at the screen for 15 minutes and killed off some evil ballista attacks with my cavalry I noticed the mountain camp was already owned by several horse archers, and I hadn't any archers to start with, nor could my cavalry do any harm to them. As I tried to flee somewhere else the red enemy crushed me with a hoard of ballistas and cats, and I gave up. If it was more tested, I guess it would've been great fun. Not that way though.

Balance: 1.5

The first scenario was very easy, a real bunch of resources, and the enemies did not attack at all. The second was impossible for me. Really bad balanced, what about playtesting or getting a betatester?

Creativity: 2.5

The first scenario was bland and uncreative, the second started well, but ended up badly. There were also lots of Kill player x conditions, which could've been easily replaced by burn the government center, kill the leader or whatever. The story was not bad though.

Map Design: 2

Map design sucked. There was absolutely no eyecandy, just normal grass terrain, normal desert terrain, normal forest terrain, normal water, normal cliffs, normal everything. Boring.

Story/Instructions: 3

The story was a bit confusing at first (the actual story is in the history section), but it was not bad. Some of the stuff I found dull though.

Additional Comments:

I really wonder what this does have to do with the Egyptians or something, but however, this campaign was very untested and lacked some important factors like map design. If more work was put into this, this could've been a great campaign.
