Review : ; This is the first installment in my campaign "The Alliance". It follows the journeys of an ambitious noble, as he journeys through a land of elves, wixards and trolls, with five allies by his side.
Hey that's a nice one! I had a lot of fun playing this campaign. At first it wasn't that good but it increased with every new mission. It was slightly too easy and maps were lacking eye candy but still it was fun as hell. In some moments I was reminded of my favorite campaign "Tai Gun" from Ingo. Indeed, there are some similarities in mission style, objectives and difficulty.
As I said above I found this campaign a little bit too easy, espacially in the first two or three scenarios. There is no unbeatable mission in it but since you're post-iron-time in most scenarios you never really have problems. The last three scenarios had a nice balance: challanging enough to keep you on track but it doesn't take you 100 years to finish them.
First I want to say what was bad: the victory conditions are all basic, the mission are - except one - mainly B&D, sometimes with a fixed-force part in the beginning.
Now what is good about it? The scenario where you have to assassine Jason is cool and tricky. There are always lots of other tribes and allies around which makes the scenarios feel more realistic. Finally the story is very nice.
Map Design: 3
The first maps look like random maps with little modifications. Here nd there new hills and cliffs were added but it's mainly random map. Approaching to the end the maps increase a lot. Now cliffs and forests - although not mixed and no trees on cliffs - seem to be planned. You can see bridges and paths leading you towards the enemy. In the last scenario a very simple swap appears along with a very very pretty island in the north. I decided to give 3 points here because the first maps aren't worth more than 2 points whereas the last ones would get 3.5 or 4.
I think this is the main part of this campaign. The story is awesome though a bit pathetic and sometimes hard to follow. The hints are ok bit there were no bitmaps (except the Chariot Archer which should be Dr Lorenzo I think). If there were bitmaps and the story would be a little bit less confusing (Why did the young price attack his father? Why should you become a vassal?) this would have been 5 points. Well done!
Hey boys wake up and download this! Sure, it won't keep you buisy for too long but it's really fun. One of the best campaign I ever played (maybe because I like pathetic stories;)). I'm pretty sure the designer increased his map design so I'm looking forward to any newer campaigns of him.
